I'm thinking of a dog I've seen before. They are swimmers. The one that I saw had brown short hair, and looked similar to a lab (it may have been one) I think that it had certain paws made for swimming. It may have been a mix.

Chesapeake Bay Retriever. they are the choc colored labs. check out the link below to see if that's what you saw.

Newfoundlands, Otterhounds, Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, Portuguese Water Dogs, Field Spaniels, and German Wire haired Pointers all have special webbed feet that assist them in swimming.

Could have been a Chocolate Lab. Labs have webbed feet, which help them to swim better.

Was it bigger than a lab with coarser hair?? Maybe a cheasapeke bay retriever-or a brown "chocolate" lab
