I don't think Muslim women are powerless. Islam does not say that women cannot be empowered. For instance, look at Prophet Mohammad(pbuh)'s wife Khadijah.(r.a)
She was a business woman - obviously empowered. Prophet Mohammad(pbuh) used to work for her.
We don't hear many Muslim voices because of cultural reasons - not religion.
The problem is that people confuse culture with religion.
Islam does not suppress woman in any way. But as Islam is spread all over the world, the region has been influenced by the culture of the people.
Yes some Muslim women cover (usually by choice) but that does not mean they are powerless or inferior human beings that are not active citizens.

I am a Muslim teenager and i go to a catholic high school in the US and all. I chose to wear the scarf to school because i do believe in the concept. but i only wear it to school and to Islam gatherings and the mosque and such for practice so when i do decide to put it on for good then i will be completely ready. My parents support my decision and did not force me to put it on all the time or anything. I am not oppressed.
neither are any other Muslim women or girls i know.
My mom is a convert to Islam and she runs and is in charge of the family business, which is owned by my christian family on my mom's side. ask any one who knows her..she is outgoing and is a strong woman and business woman.
My dad loves her to death and pretty much praises the ground she walks. My 1st part of my Q didnt really answer but it was just to show you how Muslim women and girls are supposed to be treated now to answer you question
Yes those women might be oppressed in some Arab countries because they don't have many rights. But those countries are NOT ruled or governed under Islamic law at all whatsoever. they treat women disrespectfully and as if they are not equal to men (which they are). Its a sad life there and it gives the wrong image of Islam. Muslim women cannot be forced into any kinds of situation they are not comfortable with..but unfortunately women there don't get the rights they deserve in Islam.

No Islamic women and girls are not oppressed. There is a strong Hadith and also in the Qur'an that all believing Muslim women and girls are to cover themselves when going out in public and it also says that all believing Muslim women should cover everything except the eyes. Most Muslim women choose to ignore the Hadiths though which is sad. Also yes Muslim women are allowed to own property. Muslim girls usually start wearing hijab when they reach puberty. However all Muslim girls wear abaya, and hijab in school as it is required.

women in islam can do whatever they want as long as they abide by the dress code , just as men can do whatever they want as long as they abide by the male dress code. you should read about female rights in islam and you would see that they are not oppressed at all , i'll give just one example , according to islamic law a woman has absolutly no financial obligations before she is married her father is resposible after marriage her husband most pay for everything even if she is a millionair and he's a road sweeper he is financialy responsible . if i was going to write anymore you would never finish, but women are not oppressed in islam , and i hope that you will try and read about it and you will see.

submission to God. not to anyone else. personally i am a muslim and what you see out there and the story you hear about extremists are not the religion acutally is. it promotes peace and total submission to god. middle eastern people are aggressive and it has to do more with culture and their societal reasons than the religion. the scarf is only to be taken when a woman wants to its encouraged. and yes they can start a business.

possibly the explanation Christianity made no experience replaced into considering you have been listening to what individuals advised you approximately it. many human beings have twisted perceptions of Christianity.. in case you pass to God your self by his be conscious, the Bible, and somewhat seek for him, i'm beneficial you will discover what you have consistently been finding for. What did no longer make experience to you? As a Bible believing Christian, i'm open to respond to any questions you have. the only thank you to God is by Jesus Christ. he's the way, the fact, and the life, and the only faith that quite is sensible and does no longer contradict itself.
