If the boyfriend of a girl you live with (but don't know well enough to really call your roommate), whom you have never been introducted to, whom you have never even seen full on the face, (and who always seems to be standing just outside your locked door right as you're leaving it but doesn't acknowledge you even as he grabs the door from you and enter your apartment) - is using your wash cloth, toothpaste, and possibly toothbrush, and then doesn't put the cap back on your toothpaste (a capital offense), would you be disgusted and if so, to what degree? How would you go about diffusing this situation without causing offense if you have a history of problems with people you live with even though you consider yourself a perfectly considerate and reasonable person? Please don't just assume right off the bat that you would tell this girl - who in fact has her door open and is in full view of what is going on while it's going on. Things are easier said than done.

Using your toothbrush/washcloth/etc. is unnacceptable. You don't know where that mouth has been. Or you do in at least one case. I would approach your roommate and let her know that 'hey, your dude is not allowed to put his drool all over my stuff.' That's extremely rude and unhygenic. If nothing else, keep those things in a bag in your room or something. Next time he comes over and wakes up with bad after-recreational-activities morning breath, he may start bringing his own stuff over.

You should be able to live comfortably in your own home, and leave your bathroom items in the bathroom without wondering if someone is using them or not. Unfortunately for you, it seems like you do not have that luxury. I would get a caboodle or some sort of shower caddy and just bring my things back and forth to the bathroom, and when not in use put away in a safe place in the bedroom.

I would be sure to put my toothbrush and toothpaste, etc. in my room when I am not using them. I would also put a lock on my bedroom door to prevent either of them from entering without permission (lock from inside AND outside!).

Wow. This is weird, huh? Well, to be non-confrontational, I would simply hide said bathroom accessories. That would be the least insulting thing to do. Is he going to complain to you that he can't find YOUR toothpaste? You might think of even mixing ink in a fluoride toothpaste for extra smiles!

Having roommates can be trying....when I had them, I would put ALL of my toiletries in a little basket and carry them to the bathroom with me. When I would leave, I would gather my little items, put them back in the basket and stash it in my room.

That will take care of everything...and you get to go shopping for a cute little basket!

Whenever your living space is subject to roommates' friends, etc. spending the night, keep your personal care products in your room.

i have a bad temper when people touch my stuff. I don't keep quiet about it. I would tell them in a mannerful way.. but i know i can't.. and i just end up getting angry and yelling at them...

this has happened to me before.. i went on a trip with some friends.. and forget about strangers.. but my friend's bf used my soap... and it pissed me off knowing there was a pube on my soap. i got angry told him to keep it.. and if he touched my stuff again i'd chop it off.
