I think thinking politcally correct thoughts and being politically correct are two different things.

If you are a free thinker, I assume that means no matter what the subject, you weigh up all the options and come to your own decision, in your own way.

However, being politically incorrect can offend a lot of people. Especially religious and racial groups. So whilst free thinkers should be free to think whatever they want in their heads (as I'm sure they do), they should care about being politically correct to other people...

...it could mean that their well thought out arguement isn't heard or ignored due to the friction political incorrectness causes.

Many of them don't. They're pretty amazing people. The problems arise when a person with a psychological disorder or decides to be a "free thinker", because thinking really requires a brain that works properly, just as mowing the lawn requires a lawn mower that works properly. Sure, you're free to cut the lawn with a pair of toenail clippers, but that doesn't make it a good idea. Education is critical, because it's garbage in, garbage out.

In other words, anyone can be a free-thinker, but not all of them will be taken seriously.

Political Correctness is foolishness.

I don't know what a "free thinker" is. What exactly would be the definition. A truly free thinker, I would think, would be someone that has absolutely no outside influence on his thought. Unless you have lived in total solitude your entire life from birth. That is not possible. All thoughts are influenced by outside forces.

Depends on what you mean by "politically correct." Most of us agree that some people go too far with "political correctness," but that doesn't mean that we don't care about people's feelings. We do think it's a good thing to be empathetic and sympathetic toward our fellow human beings. One can be honest without being an outright ******. Even freethinkers acknowledge the importance of restraint, sensitivity, and decorum when and where it's called for.

Apparently in the US, free thinking is now considered on the same level as being politically incorrect. I totally agree with your assessment above, but it seems that if you are a free thinker, all the government and their blind sheep want to do is shut you up these days, and you are labeled as a traitor.
No need to think on our own, we have a government to do it for us! It sounds stupid, because it is, but that is the reality of our current situation.

They shouldn't worry about being politically correct (there's no need to be rude either). Basically, one way these religions defend themselves is by creating an atmosphere in which criticizing one's religion is wrong, or un-PC. Thus, because they are religious beliefs, they should for some reason be immune to criticism and attack. This is BS. Adhereing to a religion is a conscious choice, not an immutable characteristic (such as one's race). Because it is a choice, it should be open to critique. Because religion cannot win the argument on the merits, it has to resort to rhetorical techniques, like giving itself the presumption of validity and making it immune to severly critical attack (of course, the faithful always like to say that you can ask them questions, but probe too deep, and you get emotional hostility, not a substantive answer).

I watched a bio on Whoopi Goldberg yesterday. She's always been outspoken, maybe politically incorrect. But you have to admire someone you isn't afraid to wear themselves on thier sleeves. I think free thinkers are the same. Aren't we lucky to be able to think and feel the way we truly are.

Yes, political correctness is for mindless zombies not free thinkers.

These days, political correctness is often confused with simple good manners. For example, good manners should keep pejoratives and racial slurs out of our everyday dealings with people. Political correctness, on the other hand, wants to hide all the Christmas trees.
