why don't you translate it yourself and stop using that as an excuse. It's not that difficult to research it without even buying a book. Check out Strongs concordance of koine greek. You will find out that semi-creepy stuff, where Jesus regulates the use of slavery, turns into exactly what it sounds like, in the original languages.
So what's stopping you?

Acidic, oh, it was a response to a Christian who said that bit about slavery. But you'd need hebrew for the OT and koine greek for the NT. Greek's a lot easier to access online so I try to encourage christians to look into it (and stop using the excuse of "mistranslation")

Did you know for instance that in the original hebrew language the vowels were not written down. How are you going to translate something into English without knowing what the vowels were?

The original language of the writers of the Bible was not Greek, Latin, but more likely Arabic and Hebrew. The translations were done by the scholars of the day - the priests and make sure it said what the church wanted it to say. Certain words coming from Hebrew language have been misinterpreted - this has been confirmed by many biblical scholars.

Perhaps Christians should just learn Hebrew, Aramaic, and Koine Greek so they can read the Bible in its original languages. Jews do.

I took Koine Greek in college and I own a Greek New Testament and Strong's Concordance. What is your question?

I'll defer to those I believe who have studied a bit more than you. I don't believe the Bible was mistranslated and I'll use small words to explain this for your sake. Greek (the New Testament) and Hebrew (the old testament) cannot be directly translated into english. They use one word representing several english words. Notwithstanding, truth in translation comes out just fine. But, I guess we should just take your word for it since you clearly can't back up your assertions.

I read my bible daily in hebrew, wich was the language, no greek or other pagan stuff, and i can tell you, there are a lot of words, that have no translation, and no easy way to xplain in other languages, so, never mind a concordance, get beside a jew and he will tell you what does a bible says.
If you want examples or help understanding your bible, dont hesitate on writing me, omard.skp@gmail.com

koine greek is only the start; that will allow you to read the NT and some of the later part of the OT, right?
wouldn't you also need Arameic and Hebrew?

What's stopping me is a lack of motivation to undertake that project, and the fact that Strongs sucks and doesn't know Hebrew, in addition to the fact that the authorship of certain new testament documents is spurious at best.. and the #1 for my lack of motivation is my lack of belief in a historical jesus.

How do you know? The BOOK as you call it was translated by man, who is less than perfect. What if he got it all wrong, or furthermore used it for his advantage to get people in line. No one knows for sure...You can reference any website, and you still will not ever know the true meaning and translation. Unless you here it from the man himself

Jesus doesn't "regulate the use of slavery", he tells slaves that are already in slavery to obey their masters, for their own sake and a better eternity.
"The least on Earth shall be the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven."
