Well, omni-forgiving is an interesting term. The answer to that question is, yes; however, we must accept that forgiveness is available through Jesus's sacrifice on the cross. God's forgiveness is not a blanket statement.
"If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead you shall be saved." (Romans 10:9)

Society has no control over God.
He is not, never was omni-forgiving. He is all forgiving of all those who come to Him. But those who choose to deny Him will likewise be denied by Him.
Read the parable of the 10 virgins in the Bible. It gives you a pretty good clue.

It used to be anything could evoke god's wrath. The fact that nothing obviously acting as the hand of god has destroyed anything since biblical times is probably why Nietzche originally said "God is dead".
