Cherries come in red, deep purple, yellow, yellow green, and black. Cherries are these vibrant colors to attract birds and animals to eat them, cr.. out the seed on new soil, and have a new tree begin. It is how cherries complete reproduction.

This is natures way of distributing their seeds or pips, they are red to attract birds who eat them and they are then transported in the bird droppings, this applies to many soft fruits and berries, the bird droppings actually give the seed a ready made fertilizer, mother nature is fantastic.

They contain compounds called anthocyanins, which are red colored. These are the same class of compounds that make grapes, stawberries, many flowers and other foods red. Different from lycopene and betalins (found in tomatoes and beets).
