Several years ago I applied as a job as a 911 operator in Baltimore MD. I not only had to take a written exam, a verbal exam, I had to be fingerprinted, drug tested, take a polygraph and get a physical and mental health evaluation. I wasn't even applying to be a cop just a 911 operator. Then two cops showed up at my apartment complex and interviewed my neighbors. The whole process took almost 2 months, by the time they offered me the job (with very shitty pay by the way) I had already been working for another government agency for about a month. All they asked me to do was agree to a background check.

No agencies (state, county or municipal) in NJ are allowed to use polygraph testing during the hiring process.

NO POLICE LIE ON A DAILY BASIS. THEY NEED TO DO POLYGRAPHS AFTER BEING HIRED. PUBLIC CORRUPTION NEEDS TO VANISH.
