If safety is TRUELY what you are after, here's some of the possible outcomes: I'm not proposing these, but they do make for a safer driving environment:

No radio, stereo, phones or electronic distractions allowed in the car. You may talk with your (car pooling) passenger if you don't look.

manual rollup windows. so you can escape if in water

speed laws enforced automatically with speed regulators in the cars that sense the maximum speed allowed or safe

GPS units - so people will stop going across all lanes in the last second to get an exit

Anti-collision automatic brakes

Detectors to ensure all passengers, esp carseats, are buckled in correctly

Ice detectors

i own a shop, and i think anything that improves the car or makes it safer to drive should be standard,it shouldn't be an option we have to pay for,and the cell phone deal should come hands free from the factory also,i doubt that we ever see any of this actually ever go in affect, but all this and more that improves our safety, and the safety of others should be standard in even the cheapest cars on the road, good luck,i hope this help,s.

Less electronics and fancy gadgets so that people will pay more attention to their driving than their cell phones, music, tv's. Also go back to the old roll up windows..Automobiles should not be home away from home gadgets. Too much already.
