If God is love and just and all those nice things why do murderers live to be 100 and babies die at birth?

yummygood: and how does that help a sin free, loving mother of a dead child?

twowords: I say this meaning no offense what-so-ever but you're making no sense at all. And how can you generalise about God when we're all supposed to live under His will? You can't generalise about something that's supposed to envelop everybody and everything.

Selar: I don't blame God for death. I'm asking why he ALLOWS death to some and not others.

Virgo: I respect your views but it's too easy to say words to the effect of God moves in mysterious ways for our own good in one breath and then say that we all have free will and choose to behave like we do in another. It doesn't add up.

Because death to God is just a door to a better place for us who believe. As far as babies who die goes, I honestly don't know why God takes them but what I'm trying to say is maybe it's not a punishment like you're seeing it, but perhaps they are in paradise and He spared them all the pain they would've gone through here. And maybe a murderers punishment might be to live a long miserable life having to think everyday about what he did and the pain he caused other people.

If an early death was just punishment for sin then Jesus and all the apostles (but John) and all the martyrs of old must've been great sinners because they all died young. I can't answer all your questions but I gave you what I feel is the most honest answer I could give you.

Neither of those things ALWAYS happens. This question contains some tricky semantics and is far from being the "simple question" that attracted my attention.
At about one year of age, a baby is no longer called a baby. The child becomes a "toddler" or goes by some other name at that point. If a child dies while still a baby, then a baby has died, but if that child does not die as a baby, then he or she will die at some other time and not ever be a "baby who died". It's not a nice subject, so most people would shy away from any frank discussion of your emotional terms.
As for murderers living to be 100, I can't think of many actual cases of that at all. Maybe you know of ONE instance where that happened. Is ONE case enough to derive a sweeping general statement of truth? Or of UN-truth?
My suggestion: forget about God if thinking about God leads you to conclusions like this one. That isn't what it's for. Ask yourself this instead: is love a good thing? Or how about "do things always happen the way we would like for things to happen?" And "do things NEVER happen the way we would like?"
And "Is life ALWAYS unfair?"
I hope you will find some positive answers. I'm sure you can.
Look at yourself. You can read and write and think enough to ask meaningful questions. That is a positive thing. Learn to use that to find the good in life. It's there. You just have to look for it sometimes.

God isn't love. God doesn't exist. Love has nothing to do with religion. People can find what they need - all those things that they think they're getting from God - right here on Earth, in this lifetime.

The reality is that we die when we die - it doesn't matter who or what we are. Sometimes a murderer dies in a holding cell at the age of 19. Sometimes a baby grows up to be 100. There are no guarantees. That's just life and death, it's something we have to accept.

God is love and just and all those nice things. God is the creator of life. The two scenarios you cited are situations that happen in life. Some murderers live to be 100 because of their genetics and they take care of themselves. Unfortunately babies die at birth because of some complication.

When life happens does that make God unjust or unloving? From our limited human point of view it would seem so. But God is the God of the future, as well as the past and the present. Whatever adversity happens in life God gives us a chance to overcome it and use that bad event to turn into good. We must move forward in life and not get stuck in the past or the present.

Those who believe in god will say the predictable things like "Only the good die young" and "God works in mysterious ways"! And "God wanted that baby for a sunbeam". But tell that to the babies parents, tell it to the old people who suffer and die of a wasting illness, without a shred of dignity, tell it to the mothers, fathers and wives of the soldiers who die in somebody else's war! Tell it to the millions of people, children of all ages included, who suffered and died under Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, Idi Amin, Saddam Hussein and a string of others too numerous to mention. That's a nice god, wouldn't you say? Nice and mysterious and warm and forgiving and merciful! Except when 'He' is torturing and killing people. Get real people! There are people, and other people! But there is no god. Maybe I'll think about believing in god when performs a real miracle, like growing my saintly aunt's arm back, or even just the little finger that the guy who lives next door lost a few years back. After all, he goes to church every Sunday, and has even been to Lourdes!

Murders can live free even for all their lives, but they are not free from the punishment in the future. Beside, if a baby die, what is he missing? we are alive, suffering old age and diseases and at the end we also are going to die. This is the world of death, nobody will survive, baby, young or old. God allows to everyone die, if you want to see it in that way.

i know it doesnt make sense i dont have an answer that will. but i have thought that a few times ove the past 13 months. i have had 2 misscaraiges and 1 i was far enough along when i miscaried that i felt her when i lost her. when i picked her up she was so tiny the length of my thumb. she had little arms and legs and fingers and toes. i will never forget the painfull sight of hold ing my little baby in my hands and knowing there i was nothing i could do to stop it. it hurts and makes no sense. but God does have a plan and we are shaped by both the good things and bad things that happen to us. God is love but and does not want us to hurt. but if bad things do not happen to us how can we apreciate the good things.

Its only really possible to appreciate that God is Love if you believe, and not only believe, probably specifically in Jesus. Islam doesn't tell you this at all, Judaism occasionally glories in God's love at times in the Old Testament.
This world is described as a kingdom of darkness, subject to the god of this world, Satan, for you unbelievers especially since his demons are putting thoughts into your minds unseen, and therefore not counteracted. There is decay, injustice, struggle and frustration involved in the world currently. Its going to be completely fixed one day, but is a mess now. Its only in relationship with God that you can know He is Love, when daily confronted by all sorts of sad things.

Everyone has the same rules on earth in relation to disease, natural disaster, free choice, etc... God doesn't promise His followers that tomorrow is a definite any more than the non-believers. All good in the world is from God, the Amish sure didn't denounce God after an unspeakable tragedy befell their community. And that was because of free choice gone haywire. God laughs and cries with us.

Each one of us comes from God and is of God. We each have our own journeys that we must fulfill. This life is just a pitstop in eternity. Know that the child who dies in infancy, you, your next door neighbor, the most horrible murderer you can imagine, will all return to God (to our "Source") when we die. Take comfort that your child had a special purpose, one that you may not right now understand, but a special purpose nonetheless. God bless you and I pray that you grow closer to your source and therefore, closer to an understanding and acceptance.
