Nowhere does it state that only humans have freewill. Angels have free will, as shown by Satan's rebellion, the angels who came down before the flood and took wives, and any other angels who followed Satan and became demons.
However, the Bible does not teach predestination... While God has in many cases passed down prophecies, he chooses not to know everything that will happen before it does.
Any why didn't he "contain" it? The Bible explains that the angels that followed Satan were cast out of heaven. The fact is some angels, using their free will, chose not to continue following God. What action could he take, without restricting free will, to stop them? Like humans, he let them make their choices, and they will reap the rewards of those chocies.
Edit:
Many had rejected God well before he cast the demons out of heaven. In Noah's day, the earth had become "filled with badness", and the angels hadn't been cast out yet.
Stepping back a moment, Satan was on earth when he corrupted Adam and Eve, the fact was they didn't have to listen to him, but they did. The earth is where he and his demons were cast, here with us. This is unfortunate for us, and sounds pretty lousy, however, God has offered his protection and guidance to those who accept it... We just have to make that choice. Besides, Satan came to Adam and Eve of his own free will. His influence was felt on earth beforehand, the only difference is that now, he can't return to heaven.

I used to ask the same question until I started digging around in scripture and putting together what it says here and there. First of all, Satans rebellion isn't something that somehow "snuck-up" and took God by surprise. You have to understand that Lucifer, upon his creation, was given an annointing making him the second most powerful being in the universe. He was daily before the throne of God. Satan still has this annointing, even to this day. But what does scripture say in Ezekiel concerning Satan? It says "You were created perfect in beauty and wisdom. You walked among the stones of fire on God's holy mountain and were daily His delight until the day iniquity was found in you. You corrupted yourself by reason of your beauty (vanity)." At some point, the Bible does not say, Satan wanted something that he had no right to want- he wanted to raise his throne above God's Throne and receive for himself worship from the other celestial creatures and angels- a really BIG mistake. God immediately perceived this thought in Satan's mind and called him forth to answer for it. Satan, having become arrogant and filled with pride and disdain for his Creator, must have laid a challenge of some kind before God- another really stupid mistake because we know from scripture that there was "war in Heaven" and Satan and his angels were cast out of Heaven. Those angels that went with Satan were 1/3 of the entire host of Heaven- the ones over whom Satan had been given authority. They chose Satan over God and sealed their own doom. Shortly after this insane act of willful madness, Satan and his host were cast out. God wasn't "taken by surprise" with this. Satan had moral choice and he chose badly. It isn't that God didn't forsee this and was incapable of stopping it. I'm certain that God did see it coming and because of that I'm equally certain that God tried to talk sense to Satan, but Satan, like any spoiled punk, insisted on having it his way and God said,"Fine. Here's your future." Nothing else could account for the unrelenting hatred that Satan has for God. The whole thing really explains for alot of what's going on down here amongst humanity, don't you think?

It might have been.
The Bible really gets a little silly sometimes. If God is "all-knowing" and "all-powerful" surely he could have done something about this?
God is supposed to love us above all. Why put your most beloved creation in harm's way when you have the power to avoid it?

Of course God knew he had rebels in his camp. God doesn t create robots; he adds to his family, beings that can choose to love him or reject him as their personal choice. Also, like any good father, he wants what is best for his family, and He does know what is best. But we are given a choice, and if we choose to reject the knowledge of the one who made us, we will suffer as a result. Satan chose the diametrically opposed position of Gods rule and because of the extreme gifts of beauty and knowledge he possessed, tries to lure all those he can to promote his agenda. The creation is never greater than the creator, but Satan thought he could change that,...he can t. He was expelled from his favored position and cast to the earth never to roam freely in the heavens again. He now lives amongst us humans with his demon followers, and attempts to turn all humanity from knowing or loving our creator. God saw his influence among the angelic family and has given him the opportunity to prove himself the grand leader of mankind. His dismal failure of being able to provide the paradise God had intended for mankind, proves he is not capable, and the dismal situation of man by his rule now demonstrates, to the rest of the angelic family just what a corrupt, self seeking, incompetent, Satan really us. He has not been able to restore mankind to his original state, restore paradise, bring peace, or relieve human suffering. God has allowed him to prove himself for a time,....but his days are numbered. God has promised to do away with all the problems caused by Satan and restore man and the earth to his original purpose. Rev. 21:1-8 Gods rule is that of love; Satan s rule is by greed, envy, lust, dominance, hate and rebellion. You have the choice to be on the winning side, or go down with the rebel.
