I just recently got a tattoo about a week ago and it started looking a little infected. But a few min ago my cat latched on to my arm, taking a chunk of skin covering the tattoo off. Can I put any peroxide or something like it on it to make sure it doesn't get infected? Would it hurt the tattoo?

NO! please dont do that!!

Go wash it with anti bacterial soap, and go buy some Aquaphor ointment, and use a little bit of that...

you dont want to use antiboitic creams, peroxide,or alcohol on any new tattoos.

DO NOT PUT PEROXIDE ON IT. that can actually cause scarring by killing white blood cells at the site of your tattoo. In this case i would be inclined to wash it with the atibacterial soap real good, and then a little neosporin ONCE. just to avoid any infection possibilities, then just leave it alone. Dont put anything on it after that. More than likely you will need to get a touchup. Stop by the studio where you got it and let them take a look at it. That way if there is any complications from your kitty they can straighten it out for you.

in prison when someone is caught with a new tattoo they put peroxide on it and, yes,it fights infection but also pulls the ink out. the best thing people can do for a new tattoo is to use warm soapy water and their hand and wash it at least 5 times a day and in between washes lightly I SAID LIGHTLY apply some lotion or a cream like vaseline on it. NOT BACITRATION OR TRIPLE ANTIBIOTIC make sure that whatever you apply does not have a perfume in it. your skin has just been poked a million times so you need to condition it and keep it clean.

I have some white on a tattoo. It has faded some but not that bad, but with your tattoo it might be more noticeable since it will have more white than mine. But, I think with the tattoo you want you should use the white, because I have another tattoo that I should have put white in it and I probably eventually will because I think it will look better than the natural color of my skin. Hope that helps!

If you think your tattoo might be infected, don't sit around waiting for it to get worse! Signs of infection are severe pain, hot redness, swelling and/or a puss discharge (with or without the presence of blood). Infection that is not properly tended to can result in serious health consequences and even death. IT IS NOT SOMETHING TO BE TAKEN LIGHTLY!

Incidentally, if you believe any tattoo or piercing infection is a result of poor sanitary conditions during the procedure, please let your doctor know and have yourself tested for blood disease such as Hepatitis.

It's probably best you go see your doctor ASAP, because trying to treat it yourself may end up making it worse!

I'd wash it really well and put some peroxide on it. Cat scratches can be very dangerous so make sure it's good and clean.
Depending on how deep the scratch is you may have a wee scar running through your tattoo. You'll have to wait and see.

It can probably be touched up.

please please do not listen to anyone that says that antibiotic oinments are not good for your tattoo. as for the chunk of skin taken off the tattoo..it might mottle it a little bit, so get it touched up when it's all healed. a tattoo is a wound. do you put lotions on your scrapes, or do you put antibiotic ointment when you want it to heal? same for tattoos. ointments moisturizes and heals 3x as fast. if you fell down and scraped your knee when you were younger, i doubt your mom put lotion on your wound.haha so think of it like that. i speak from experience i have three tattoos.

I'd suggest you go back to the tattoo parlor you had it done at and ask them. They (usually) know the best way to treat/maintain their tatts.

But, peroxide will definitely harm the tattoo.

My step mom got a tattoo on her foot and the next day our dog jumped on her and scratched the tattoo. It looked all smeared and messed up, but after i think it was 2 weeks it healed and you couldn't even tell. She just took care of it as usual (with A & D onintment).

It could take the color out of the tattoo, your best bet is to use triple antibiotic ointment or even better yet an ointment called bag balm is wonderful.
