What do you mean "top dog breed of 2006?" Who won a dog show, i.e., AKC/Eukanuba or Westiminster? Or, just the most popular? The 2006 Eukanuba Viewer's Choice is Geneva the German Shepherd Dog and the AKC/Eukanuba National Champion is James the English Springer Spaniel. Westminster's 2006 Best In Show was "Ch Rocky Top's Sundance Kid," a.k.a. "Rufus," a Bull Terrier. The most popular dog of 2006 by private household purchase is the Labrador Retriever as an overall American average, however, in many urban areas, the number one dog is the Yorkie, or Yorkshire Terrier.

I dont know about the dog shows which in my opinion have nothing to do with RL. I would think pitbulls cause everyone is into owning the ultimate breed:)

Labradors are still on top in the AKC registrations...However, there is a great pit bull site that claims that pit bulls are actually the number one..First, because the majority of them are not registered. and secondly, be cause they are registered as Am Staffs AND APBTs in two American registries.
