Singapore, being an island-state, has one of the world most densely populated population. We have increased by 0.6m - from 3.9m in 2000 to 4.5m in 2007. Government is expecting population to grow to 6.5m in the foreseeable future. Should the day come, we may experience an energy crunch both in resources as well as food. Are there plans in place to implement renewable alternative energy resources, such as - solar, wind, hydro or wavegen energy source alternatives? How are existing population to cope with the inconveniences, if government were to intensify these areas of R&D in tropical green technologies implementation. Who is responsible to educate the masses on these and make the transition, adjustment smooth and uninterrupted? Coordinating and orchestrating takes a great amount of communications and persuasion. The recent revelation has caused much discomfort and as a citizen, we should ponder deep and serious on how to live amicably in the substainable city in the near future to come.

The govt is pursuing a growth agenda that is completely anti-environmental.
Casinos use megawatts of electricity to attracts gamblers like moths.
More hotels are being building. They are the biggest waster of precious water with their deep bathtub for their guests. Massive grid of building blocks trap heat in the city, making it hot as ever.
We have to think of hundreds of thousands of expatriates who needs airconditioning to bear the humid weather.
Eco-systems like natural mangroves have been reclaimed. Chek Jawa is merely given a short-term lease before it disappears forever.
Any proposed environmental programmes are just window dressing which this goverment is famous for. Maybe the half completed ferris wheel will count as a wind harnessing project. One minister even tells citizens to go overseas if they want to enjoy nature.
