A few months ago, I heard that Swifer cleaning products for kitchen floor could be harmful for dogs if they licked the floor, etc and that some dogs had died from it. I have never used the products in the past, but I was just wondering if anyone knows if this is true? Thanks

It is most definately true it can kill dogs if they lick the floor or their paws or any part of them that comes in contact with the product. This is true also for cats and infants if they touch the floor and put their hands in their mouths. Please if you have pets or children don't use this product.

It is true, and I even know of a dog that the local university vet hospital (Kansas State University Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital) thinks died from it but they have not found out what is toxic to the dog. He came into the vet clinic that I work at with vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and seizures. My vet didn't have a clue what was going on so he referred the dog and its owner to KSU VMTH and that was the only possible problem that they could find. The dog got really sick about 24 hours after its owner mopped the floor with a Swiffer Wet Jet, and she said that they dog would go around the kitchen checking the floor for food so they think that he licked the floor. I spoke to my vet and he said that it is something in the cleaning solution that is toxic, and that they can even get sick from licking floors that have been cleaned with it.

Love your avatar...Anyway, before they changed their formula, it was one molecule from antifreeze, which kills small animals if ingested. Now they have a new and improved version, which is the only reason I bought it at all. I have 3 cats, a dog, and 2 kids, and have never had a problem with the new stuff.

It's an urban legend.

Water is one molecule away from hydrogen peroxide. Does that mean we shouldn't drink it?
