I have a new Sony Bravia XBR 40" LCD HDTV, and sports look awesome. No ghosting at all. The response time is 8ms, plenty fast for sports. So in general, no - LCD TV's aren't bad to watch sports on. Perhaps the older/cheaper sets are lousy, but the technology itself is up to the task.

I've heard DLP and Plasma are best for sports. With so many negatives and high prices of plasmas, DLP's are a GREAT value. Plus the side angle views are better. DLP's bulbs need replacing every 2-3 years $200, the bulp is the only negative I've heard about DLP's.

I personally don't like it - which is why I bought a plasma. However, the better LCD TV's (more expensive) are much improved.

Using current technology, the best compromise (in my opinion) would be a DLP projection HDTV that uses LED's instead of a bulb.
