Israel is threatened by the power of Iraq and it was one of the reasons why it was invaded by the US. Iran is also a threat to the existence of Israel due to extremist Muslims and it will be next target for the Americans.

lol, the first answer cracks me up. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 its been said even by the Bush administration, so quit using that please. The US attacked Iraq for a number of reasons as I see it. 1) the first Bush couldn't get the job done so his son did it for him. 2) even though they aren't a large producer of oil they still have some. 3) because we got tired of Sadam talking ****. it was just a case of the US govt trying to bully people. Now Iran is a completely different story but some of the same reasons. Iran won't stop uranium enrichment even though they signed a treaty, that most other countries did also, that says they can use nuclear power but Bush thinks they are making WMD's which there is absolutely no proof of. Then theres the fact that the Iranian govt is supposedly helping the Shiite militias in Iraq, which again there is no proof of. Only thing that the US can prove that someone is getting iranian weapons and giving them to militias in iran. There is no proof the govt. is doing it. Then theres the ego factor. Bush can't stand that they won't back down under the pressure that we are using on them. he hates when he can't bully people. But rest assured that if we do attack Iran, Iraq will look like a cake walk and I'm pretty sure that it will be the end of life as we know it. World War 3 will happen in our lifetime and it will be a direct result of us attacking Iran.

at the starting up-- Syria does no longer have OIL--or no longer to the quantity that different ME international places do--it really is why Saddam had a PIPELINE operating into Syria--he bribed them with OIL and they'd help him around the UN sanctions. second--The warfare in IRAQ has cost about a million trillion--virtually so below a third of what you're siting--and that is over the finest 5 years--so it would take on the present factor of troops and kit yet another TEN years to equivalent 3 trillion.---which isn't occurring regardless of if McCain Wins. third--why did Osama use Saudi's interior the 9/11 assaults--the answer is ordinary---OBL wanted the u . s . out of Saudi Arabia and he figured that the actual shown truth that Saudi human beings attacked the u . s . it would reason the u . s . to tug out of Saudi Arabia--like we did in Somalia. Fourth---why did Bush pick IRAQ--nicely it really is a lengthy answer yet to shorten it up--BUSH needs to "DRAIN the Swamp" I refer that to the middle-east usually---of Radical Islam---it really is why Bush keeps pushing for democratic methods interior the ME international places. He believes strongly that democratic countries will blunt radical Islam. Iraq became the organic decision to commence draining it. Politically it became feared by the different international places interior the area. It turned right into a terrorist assisting united states of america. and it had already been demonized for the finest decade by the western media. Militarily--it became stratigically placed--the very heart of the middle-east and next to IRAN which could in result ISOLATE IRAN from some thing of the middle-east. It has a deep water port and strong infrastructure to help a cutting-edge military. Economically--it has a nicely knowledgeable inhabitants, and it has OIL--that could also help it to without delay boost a doable democracy. some thing else?

It's funny how Iran became a "threat" after it started talking about buying and selling oil in Euros rather than dollars. It would make economic sense for them - the Euro is a stronger and more stable currency at the moment. HOWEVER doing so would give the US economy a knock, at a time when it's already weak and has a huge deficit.

Iraq was all about trying to establish a permanent US presence in the Middle East, as planned by the neo-conservative think tank Project for a New American Century (don't believe me - read their website).

oil. It is the major factor for which George Bush is being attracted towards the gulf countries. He has no plans to safeguard Israel.Iran may be his next task as Iran is a country where there are a lot of oil reserves.
It may also be because of the nuclear power of Iraq & Iran.

The Israeli government actually warned the USA against attacking Iraq. They knew it would destabilise the region. Bush attacked Iraq for oil. He didn't expect it would turn out the way it did.

The general public may never know the real reason. My guess is to finish what his dad didnt. And to make a bunch of money on the weapons factor. Which Bush has his hands in.

attacked iraq to save israel? wake up.. how many real BIG and economically STRONG countries do you know that would take care of such country like israel and would take risk getting involved in local conflicts? 'saving' was only a reason, a pretext for us to start attack against iraq. its all about greediness when it all comes to natural recources of middle east and if us wouldnt have started invading east it was only a question of time who would have started first..

I'm not sure it was about Israel but I do know it was a plan since the late 80s when Wolfowitz designed the famous pre-emptive strike report. They never expected Clinton to win and interfere with their plan much less two terms.

As for the reasons, I really think it is about oil more than Israel.
