My cat just gave birth two days ago. Kittens are doing great but she just did the strangest thing. She just went to the bathroom in my living room. She is very well liiter box trained and has used the fresh litter since the kittens have been born. However, she just choose to use my carpet instead. It was somewhat runny stool and the stuff in her box is not. Is this why she didn't use the litter box or does it have something to do with the kittens. It wasn't an accident either I heard her meowing and then straching and by the time I looked she had already went.

I'd get her to the vet. When cats that are good about the box go elsewhere it is usually due to a medical reason. There is pain when going and they think it must be the box or location where they are going that causes the pain. She will go again someplace else as the living room was painful, too, as indicated by the meowing.

Sometimes my cats do that to and I work at an animal clinic and sometimes they do that as well. I think sometimes they just miss the box or dont make it in time if she has the runs that may be the case. If she keeps having the runs get her to a vet to make sure nothing is going on with her and she is fine health wise. I know sometimes when cats pee on things it means they have a urinary track infection so if anything have her looked at for that.

Runny stools means vet time. Especially since she has kittens.
