This is normal.
If English is not your mother tongue, then you need to practise more.
English is a very use full language, since India has adopted it for Internet use and lots of other small countries have also adopted it, it is becoming truly an international language. What Britisher cannot do for centuries Internet did it for them in less then 20 years thanks to USA's leadership in computer science.
PS:
Click on the British (UK) and USA flag below and see how they are doing on Yahoo Answer, I will do it now to see.

No way...Don't feel ashamed one bit!!! and esp. don't be afraid to talk or make grammar mistakes in front of your friends/ family becoz they love you for who you are! Think about it...your friends became your friends eventhough they knew that you didn't speak flulent English, right!? It means they liked you. Plus, it takes time to learn things. No one is perfect. You just have to try hard to speak English whenever it is possible...for example when you are playing games, reading a book (read it out loud), newspaper, watch English/ western t.v. programs, if you work then talk to people whenever its possible, etc...
Also, there are many enlish classes that are offered on a daily basis..if you feel you may benefit from that, try it..its never TOO late! And, if you let people know that you are open to grammar corrections in your English, that may also help as-well..(make sure, people don't start to take advantage of you though!) Most of all, don't feel bad about not speaking well in front of others.

If you are not confident in communication skills then I suggest you should join a training centre that specializes in English language (verbally). I had the same problem when I used to live in India. But before immigrating to Canada, I joined a training centre and now I have no problems communicating my thoughts/opinions in writing or orally.

If they are truly your friend they will understand and try to help you. The only way to become better in a language is to practice it. in the terms of written communication you should try using spell-check when on the computer along with a dictionary if you are handwriting something.
Maybe offer to teach your friends your native language in return for them helping you. I do this with my friends when I visit them in Greece. I get to practice my Greek and they get to practice their English. We all have fun and laugh because everyone is making the occasional mistake but its the only sure way to learn.

Read newspapers and watch the news, they use better English than people in conversations and especially people on this site.
Take clues from how professionals word things, spell things, and use grammar. It's sometimes totally different from how people speak.
