The people who are saying no on here have never seen their kids knocked down by some speeding driver..i have, two of my daughters were knocked down by one, they are both ok now though , i think banning speeders would be a good idea..i would also instantly ban people using mobile phones..if more people were banned for these sort of offences traffic congestion would also be eased

If you speed at greater than 100 milea an hour in the U.K and you are detected by a street police unit you will be banned from driving for at least a year. But the process of prosecution takes some days so the ban comes into effect at the end of the Judicial process.

You cannot impose an instant ban for speeding even if that ban is only for 24 hours. Apart from the complete inability to police such a law there are personal rights issues to overcome. Firstly unlike drink driving bans you are not unfit to drive, just reckless. Next, the police do not have enough equipment to verify that everytime a speed gun is directed towards an oncoming vehicle that the speed gun in use has been Calbrated to ensure its accuracy prior to being used. There are no speedometer records that verify the accuracy of the speedometer in your vehicle. Most are out of true by upto 10%. So there is already a minimum speed threshold set on all S[eed cameras (Gatso) within England and Wales to take account of the accuracy issues. So whilst it is nice in theory it is riddled with legal loopholes and as such unenforcable without new legislation to overcome the issues. Outside schools would carry some credability for a ban but not an instant one.

Since it's the misuse of speed which causes the problem not speeding, any bans should reflect the seriousness of that particular incident.

If you are going more than 30mph above the limit when you are caught there is a ban imposed. Its just not instant it takes a few weeks to go to Magistrates court.

So many people get killed and injured every year due to speeding drivers, so the punishment needs to fit the crime.

Its not difficult to drive within the speed limit, people need to stop being selfish with their driving.

Just think of your insurance rates and then you will slow down. No speed limits=no cap on the cost of insurance rates.

Speeding is Good!

It reduces the number of people exhaling CO2 gas into the atmosphere and that is a very, very good thing, indeed!
