It is illegal any where to have straight pipes. If you want to make your truck loud, replace the factory muffler with a "Cherry Bomb" muffler. But before putting on your truck, put in in a fire to burn out the insulation. You can have it repainted, install it on your truck and enjoy the wonderful sound. It will be music to your ears. And should you get stopped for your truck being loud, when they look under to see if you have a muffler or not it will appear legal. You can also, remove the catalytic converter. Don't expect a muffler shop to do it because they can be fined $25,000 if caught. Personally, I wouldn't recommend removing the converter on a 96.

Don't know about the area around Fort Lost-In-The-Woods, but on the post you can't have straight pipes. They'll cite you for excessive noise and probably won't let you drive it on base until you get it fixed. I've been stationed in nine different states and every one of them required mufflers, so I wouldn't be surprised if the civilian cops would nail you for straight pipes too.

As the others have said, it's illegal anywhere. Try a low restriction muffler, you'll get a good tone and you can still hear the radio. At least, you won't have to listen to the siren or yelper in the cop car behind you with the lights flashing.

fart lenny weed wont let you have straight pipes on base. Noise ordinances in the city also will get you in trouble. move to kentucky or a rural town if you like the crap sound. I like flowmaster exhaust sounds like racecar exhaust.

ANything is legal in Kentucky, they have no car inspection or laws whatsoever...The cars that drive in that state are unbelieveable!
