Yes. Most of our icons actually are either portrayed as blissful and serene in a meditative state or smiling. I am Catholic. Whose icons are you referring to? Buddhist and Hindu icons I have seen are often very similar to ours. Are you intentionally looking for what you want to see?

Lord Buddha. And I know why he's smiling, he was content with his lot, understood money doesn't buy happiness and lived a very uncomplicated life. You'd be smiling if you didn't have any stress or worries either.

Organized religion isn't meant to make anyone happy. It's meant to make your feel guilty and shows you how to appologise for yourself in any given situation. It points out how you are flawed if you don't worship something other than your own true self and doesn't explain why you're an amazing individual with every reason to smile.

Many Hindu Gods and Goddesses are smiling/happy, at least some of the time.

There are a lot of happy icons and depictions of the Christian Faith.
I don't know what to tell you about the other faiths and their depiction being what they are.

not that i know of, don't know why...but i've got a drawing of Jesus laughing which He did a lot but is often forgotten...it reminds me that Jesus enjoyed His friends, family and just talking with poeple..
