Um, unless some god just sprang into existence without my knowledge, Shinto is not a god, Shinto is a religion. Shintoists believe that every living thing and also every inanimate object contains a god or has a spirit.

That said, no one can "force" you to believe in anything. They can require you to go to their church and practice their religion in some ways, but they can't plug your brain into some matrix and make it think something else.

Tell them when you feel the time is right. When it is, you'll know it.

What is Shinto? I never heard this kind of GOD? Ask yourself why don't you believe in GOD? I mean how did you born? Who is your creator? Who makes you speak, laugh, cry..? Have you ever thought about that? How a tiny seed turns into huge tree? How is whole system working on earth and space? If you see by your heart and brain's eye you will find one GOD in everything!

You must make your own choices! Tell your parents what you are thinking and have an open mind with them. Realize they probably want what is best for you but may not express it clearly. Study with them. Talk with them. Pray with them. You must be honest with yourself first... why Shinto? What is appealing about it? Why not what your parent's believe? etc. These questions will help you come to a good conclusion as your parents and you discuss spiritual things together. I will pray for you.

Be blessed

The right time to tell them is now. The trick is to do it in an adult way. Sit them down, tell them that you need to talk to them about something very important to you and that you're afraid they might not like it, but it needs to be said anyway. Then just tell them your feelings and why you feel this way. Hopefully, this isn't a rash choice and you've explored this aspect of your beliefs completely. If so, they'll most likely be upset that you're not embracing what they brought you up to believe, but if they're like most parents, they'll want you to do what makes you happy.
Good luck

Shinto - Where do all of these false gods come from? I've never heard of such. Are we now so immoral that we turn to anything or any person to replace the One and Only True God?

they'll get mad, but you have to follow what you think is right. Remember you have to live with yourself for the rest of your life...start taking charge of your life and make your own decision, your parents are not going to be around forever to hold your hand. Stand on your own.

DON'T JUST FOLLOW THEM AROUND, BUT BELEIVE IN SHINTO. ONE MRE THING........... GOD IS OMNIPRESENT. GOD IS EVERYWHERE. THERE IS ONLY ONE SUPREME BEING. SOME CALL IM RAHIM,ALLAH,KRISHNA,RAM,JESUS,BUDDDHA,SHINTO, OR ANYTHINGELSE, BUT STILL HE IS ONLY ONE. GOD IS THE SUPREME FORCE THAT RUNS THROUGH EVERYTHING. ONCE AGAIN, GOD IS OMNIPRESENT!

NOBODY can "force" you to believe in any god.

And if they get mad at you for not following their belief system, that speaks much, much, MUCH more poorly of them as parents, than it does of you as their child.
