Alcohol and drug abuse can cause short term memory loss.

Abuse of crystal meth can bring on paranoia, short term memory loss, wild rages and mood swings as well as damage to your immune system. As far as we know, it is not physically addictive, although many have quickly developed a very strong psychological and damaging dependence for the drug.

When use of alcohol becomes abuse of alcohol a few things occur. The first and most apparent is the want of more alcohol. This obsession sets in shortly after abuse begins. The obsession will grow and grow the more and more alcohol is abused. It is an endless cycle of addiction.
Shortly after the obsession has set in, the damage begins. The first thing to go is concentration level. The alcohol abuser will become more scattered in thought as time goes on. This is the first sign of short-term memory loss.

The effects of smoking marijuana are generally felt within a few minutes and peak within 10 to 30 minutes. The effects of eating marijuana take longer to peak, and generally last for several hours. They include dry mouth and throat, increased heart rate, impaired coordination and balance, delayed reaction time, and diminished short-term memory.

Hi CoverGirl. I am in the same boat and I certainly know how frustrating it is! What I have found most useful is jotting down the things that I need to remember even if it's something I saw/read/have done 5 mins ago. I think I'm going to try Ginko Biloba, but I'm afraid it won't work b/c I know I'll forget to take it! :P
Also, I agree w/ the comments from other user regarding concentration. I do find that if I concentrate more on what I am doing, I remember things better. Let's hope whatever we do helps!

I know how frustrating this can be! It's not easy to keep a mental list when you have so many things on your plate... so keep a physical one. Even if it's just pen and paper... write down what you need to do and create a reward system for when you are finished with a task- you will remember the reward! Also create realistic goals "by lunch to day i would like to have done this" if all of the things that you want to get done don't- remember not to beat yourself up.
My favorite thing to do is use a dry erase marker and write on my bathroom, or full length mirror "Today you need to call, or remember you put your keys..." It will build your confidence and that will help!
Good luck!

First try taking some vitamins and see how that helps. If you're still having trouble remembering, I use this game called BRAIN AGE on Nintendo DS to help. It gives you simple problems and puzzels to get your mind working. I love using it before a big test or before I have a lot of studying to do. It really just gets your brain in gear to work. Even if you don't have a nintendo DS, it's worth it to buy it just for the one game if you are really having trouble with your memory. But you should always go to the doctor to check that everything is ok... not to scare you or anything.

properly , once I start up remembering undesirable techniques i in simple terms cant provide up this sense , yeah i might attempt to flee a lil , yet i will under no circumstances recover from it on a similar time.. in simple terms time is a thank you to make u forget approximately ( this is far less effective each in specific situations , despite the fact that it generally works this style) @ mohab:- loooooool , u jogged my memory of me & my acquaintances whilst we sit down mutually to devour or drink some thing , saying the properly-enjoyed assertion:- " yalla neshrab 3ashan nensa" lol , and we actually get intense ( mehayyeseen ya3ny ) whilst we drink ( something no count if it fairly is soda or juice) long stay Egypt.. love & peace from islam..

what is that stuff? ....ginko biloba or something...well anyway its supposed to help with your memory. Or you could try writing things down, that is what I've got to do. I got lists all over the house of things. Oh and sometimes if its really imortant and I cant forget I'll actually yell at myself (outloud) to remember what to do

Thats easy. Keep something on you to take / keep notes. Such as a PDA or a dictation recorder or just some plain paper and a pen.

You dont' have a bad memory, you have a problem concentrating. The best thing for you is to study up on techniques to improve your CONCENTRATION, not your MEMORY.
