How do I get rid of seeing the printer characters in a document? In other word all those funny symbols that show things like line breaks, and the dots that show spaces. I am using Word 2003 version.

I guess there is a Show/Hide paragraph option in the View menu. I am not sure if the command is called that, but you have to look out for a symbol that looks like a 'P' seen from the backside.

If there is no such thing you can always find it. You can add menu items/commands to your menus. If you right click on an empty space in the tool bar region you'll get a shortcut menu. From there click on Customize and you'll see a dialog box appear. I guess you have to select the second tab; it allows you to add/remove necessary commands to you menu/toolbar.

Try exploring this feature.

The Show/Hide paragraph is actually helpful when you are about to print your document. For e.g, say you are using the Justify alignment in your document. And later at a final revision you add a line towards the end of any paragraph. If you do not conclude the paragraph by hitting the return key, the last line in that paragraph will appear as if there are a lot of spaces in between the words. If you have the Show Paragraph enabled it will at least hint you that you have to hit the enter key of your keyboard at the specified point.

What you can see is the formatting to get rid of it look at the standard tool bar (that's the one with the save and printer icons on it) you should see some thing that look like a musical note click on this it then should hide the formatting if it's not there click on the end of the tool bar and click on add and remove buttons and insert it.

Hmmm...you want someone to do your homework or you need the MS word and Excel manuals? All MS products come with HELP files but if you need articles on the 2 products, the best way is to take some time to use MS word and MS excel. Suffice to say, Excel is more for worksheets and mathematical calculations and macro formulas.

Somewhere on the top where all the icons are, click on the icon with the paragraph symbol (it looks like a P with a line on the left side of it.)
