I recently suffered from infection of the middle ear (otitis media) which started after coming back from swimming. The infection gave me strong ear ache, sore throat and fever (38C). I am still taking antibiotics (Amoxicillin) but most of the symptoms cleared already. How long should I wait before I can go swimming again? I used to go 3 times a week and I miss it!

Thanks!

finish your meds, wait a few more days, and dive right in. when you get out of the water, put a few drops of alcohol in each ear, and tug on your ear a bit to "swish" it around, then tip your head over to drain out the alcohol. this will dry out any residual water, and help prevent recurrence.

It's hard to see a relationship. "Swimmer's ear" is external otitis, an infection of the external ear canal, and is treated with ear drops. Otitis media normally begins with a malfunction of the eustachian tube, as with a cold or hayfever, and though it's possible you might have gotten some water up the eusachian tube while swimming, this would be really bizarre. Unless there's something else you're not telling us, it's probably OK, but it may yet be uncomfortable to go deep underwater until you can clear pressures with normal eustachian function.

i've got had an ear an infection like that previously. Then maximum suitable ingredient to do at this factor is to no longer worsen it anymore. Take a heat fabric and carry it tightly to cleanse the exterior and eliminate many of the puss that has been popping out. After-wards, take a Q-tip and dip it into some rubbing alcohol. If it stings, do no longer project! meaning that it have been given into the ear and it truly is doing it truly is interest. After that, placed a clean sparkling pair of studs in and confirm you twirl them as much as conceivable so as that the wound wil heal quicker. sparkling them as quickly as in 2 or 3 days to maintain them sparkling. desire that facilitates !

You should not go swimming until the antibiotic treatment is done and all the other symptoms disappear.
