I know it should be as easy as fraction division, however, I am having trouble with the quantities. The recipe was given to me on such a large scale and I want to make just small batch maybe for four people. Could you please reduce this gigantic thing into a reasonable size.

41/2 pounds vegetable
3 pounds vegetable
.87 gallons liquid
.62 gallons liquid
.25 gallons liquid
2 cups liquid
1 cup sugar

mark--that's what I did then I multiplied it by oz...to get corresponding value. Is this correct.

.87 / 10 = .087 x 128 oz = 11.1 oz (approx 1 1/4 c.)

Basic recipe conversions 101
Convert everything to ounces first
This is called your "Old Yield" and it is your bottom number
Express your" New Yield " in ounces by multiplying the number of portions times the weight per portion
New Yield/ Old Yield = a number which is called a conversion factor
Multiply all the numbers in the Old Yield by the cf to get the proper quantities for New Yield
You can also add all the ingredients together using 8 lbs per gallon [ the weight of water ]for your liquids and .85 * 8 for the sugar weight
Again everything to ounces first and fractions of ounces are expressed using decimals.
This is the standard way to convert any recipe
Here's the solution;
Your old yield was 100 3.5 oz portions
How did I do that ?
I added up the entire recipe.
4.5x 16 = 72oz
3x16 = 48 oz
.87x 128 =110 oz
.62x 128 =80 oz
.25 x128 = 32
.85x 8 = 7.25 oz
---------------------------
350 oz
New Yield : 6 4 oz portions = 24 0z
So 24 / 350 = .069 which as you may recall from your reading is your conversion factor
multiply all the ingredients by that number to get the proper quantities
BTW I just gave you THE right answer. The method I gave you will work with all recipes all the time . So there

is 1/8 good? is just simple math -- there are 16 oz in a pound so you multiply 4.5 and 3 by 16 and divide by 8 and get oz.

9 oz first veggie
6 oz second veggie

there are 128 liquid oz in a gallon -- this part gets a bit trickier -- in algebra you do 87/100=x/128 to determine oz. then divide by 8 --

liquid 1 is 14 oz
liquid 2 is 10 oz
liquid 3 is 4 oz (1/2 cup)

1/8 of 2 cups is 1/4 cup
1/8 of 1 cup is -- 1/8 cup

I would first need to know how many portions this recipe serves before I could help you to scale down to a 4 person serving.
