We have a power supply for electrophoresis which I am writing a safety analysis of. The power supply is 120V, 60Hz and the fuse rating is 1A at 250V. If it makes any difference, the supply is plugged into a GFCI outlet. As the gel tanks need to be covered to get a current, electrocution should only be able to happen by touching a live lead connector? What is the most likely result of an accidental electrocution from this apparatus? Thanks a lot.

Y need to make sure that no power current flows through the safety ground.
The electricians hand book says the critical current through the chest cavity is between 100 and 200 Milli amps. Less than 100 u will hurt yourself . above 200 u can get bad burns.

Forget the word electrophoresis since that applies only to what it's used for. The most likely way to be harmed would be to hold on to both leads of the supply with two hands (current through heart) or to hold on to either lead with a current path through you ... hand touching cold water faucet etc. Since I don't know what the output voltage and currents are it's difficult to really assess the dangers.

To deter? There's absolutley no way to deter murder through the death penalty. Study after study has shown no correlation between a state having the death penalty and the number of murders. To be honest, if you support the death penalty for deterrance, you're supporting a false idea. The only possible justification for the death penalty is retribution- the idea that those convicted of murder "have it coming to them." While that's an accepted idea in our justice system, I can't support it so long as the possibility of putting an innocent person to death exists.
