I love my country, after travelling for 12 years there is still nowhere like England. The green fields as you fly in, the wonderful villages, the theatres in the West End. Surely you lot can list some real positives for a change?

Well Annette W, I agree, there is nowhere like England!! Thank goodness!!
You forgot to mention, the traffic, the crowds, the waiting queues for the theatres, the yellow lines, dont park here, traffic cameras hidden by trees, the exorbitant cost of everything, like petrol and food, the narrow roads, the roundabouts with traffic lights, and the white paint worn off the road!! and what about the curbs on country roads so you cant park off the road, or the laybys that hold 3 cars, and no signs that its there, till your on it.!!
If you have travelled for 12 years you cant have gone far.Positive points are as follows..everyone speaks a kind of English, thats all.

Gladly.

Free heathcare (for those who whinge about the NHS, try moving to a country where you have to pay)
A pretty bloody good standard of living (especially in comparison to 90% of the planet.)
Natural Beauty
Eons of History (of which we should be more proud, Stonehenge was built at the same time as the pyramids...)
We understand the queueing system (on the Continent they seem to have difficultes)

There are so many things that we should be positive about, and have some pride in our nation. Not in a jingoistic, "if you don't like it here then f*** off back to your own country" way, but in a "We are a proud nation, we stand up for the underdog and we NEVER give up" kind of way. Im so tired of the negativity we are bombarded with from all angles.

Obviously it's more fashionable to be negative...sad isn't it?

As an Ozzie who is moving to the UK hopefully soon, we too have the bad stuff that people have mentioned. Problems with immigrants, crime, the whole works. I think it's that way in most countries these days. I read a quote on a calender the other day by Anne Frank (now there was someone who had something to complain about). She said something to the effect of 'I don't think of the bad things but of the beauty that still remains'. I have had several trips to the UK and found much beauty there. As I am sure some of you have had trips to Oz and loved it here. Grass is always greener I guess.

England does have the most attractive Red Cylindrical Royal Mail boxes. The Telephone Kiosks look good from a distance but when you step inside one - it is like a Public Loo.

This country is now a crime ridden cess pit after 10 years of those crooks Blair and Brown. We are legislated to an inch of our lives and woe betide anyone who dares speak out against the Government near the Houses of Parliament. They will be located, arrested, photographed, finger printed, DNA'd then brought to 'justice'.
