Does anyone have a really good home remedy for a tooth abscess? I already know that I need to see a dentist but I need something to get me through this now until I can see a dentist. Please do not tell me to see a dentist, I already know that. All I want are some good remedys to hold me over until then

Abscess= A tooth abscess or root abscess is pus enclosed in the tissues of the jaw bone at the tip of an infected tooth.

Be careful and don't delay treatment as this is an infection, that can get in your blood stream and become serious. "In some cases, a tooth abscess may perforate bone and start draining into the surrounding tissues creating local facial swelling. The lymph glands in the neck in some cases will become swollen and tender in response to the infection."

Treating an abscess is only treating a symptom of a larger problem. The only way to "treat" and abscess it to begin antibiotic treatment and then treat what is causing the infection itself. Only licensed Dr.s can prescribe this for you. Other than treating the pain associated with the abscess, there is nothing more YOU can do.

Best bet - go to a pharmacy, and ask the pharmacist. They are professionals that study long and hard to learn the effects of drugs on the body.

There is an otc product called Ambesol or Anbesol that is made for temporary relief of tooth pain.

One thing you should ABSOLUTELY NOT DO - don't try the old folk remedy of putting an aspirin against the sore tooth. It might numb the pain, but it may very well damage the tooth and kill it. Suddenly, your abcess can turn into a root canal.
