Serious question, not a jab.

John - just curious: when have you seen many non-religous people say they're hypnotized? Can you elaborate?

(I'm not arguing that they can't be, just wondering about your specific experience).

I tend to agree with Scapegoat and disagree with the purported *expert*. (no explanation for his *answer*)

People like to believe that their beliefs are based upon free will, and for some that may be the case, but for most the susceptibility and early indoctrination play a greater role. Hypnosis and self-hypnosis has never worked on me, and I'm non-religious. I was not indoctrinated as a child, and I've always viewed organized religion as a form of mind control. Parents perpetuate it with good intentions, to continue family traditions and for social implications. But most people wouldn't think to question their faith. It's too big a part of their identity.

All people can be hypnotized.

The question isn't if one can be hypnotized or not but if one desires to be hypnotized or not. Also, there's no such thing as hypnosis except for SELF-hypnosis. A hypnotist does not hypnotize you, [s]he simply assists you in finding that state on your own.

I'm a Christian and I believe that Jesus Christ is God in the Flesh.
I refuse to let any person hypnotize me or attempt to try.

If you are born into a religious culture, your susceptibility to hypnosis is irrelevant to your probable acceptance of that belief system.

Nope. None whatsoever.

Ask any person trained in hypnosis (I am a trained/certified clinical hypnotherapist).

Some people are highly suggestible and religion has been developed over centuries to target those very ones.
Excellent question and one I hope people will answer with honesty.
