OK what?? If you get your degree you can become an officer. Go talk to an Officer Recruiter. You won't take the ASVAB, but a similar and much harder exam for officer placement. There is no guarantee of anything. Depending on the service you are thinking about there are non-combat jobs all over the place. The Navy or Coast Gaurd are you best choices if you don't want to see Iraq up close and personal. There are also lots of jobs in Admin and other things that don't require you see the front live per se if you choose the Marine Corps or Army, but they have paper pushers in the gulf too, all over the place. Seems like you need to figure out what you really want to do and you if it is the military you will need to talk to several enlisted and officer recruiters from several different branches until you can make an informed decision. The way you are thinking now isn't quite in mind with a successful military career. It is a great way of life, but it is going to change your life forever regardless if you are in Iraq or not. You are going to have to exam what you really want before making the final choice to act on anything.

The only thing a college degree will help you in, at least for the Army, is a higher starting rank. The MOS you are able to get in for the army is based on your ASVAB score and with other branches, it seems you don't get much of a say in what you can go in. Navy might be different since my friend who enlisted with them got in the field he had wanted but that could have been luck.

It all depends, with a BA you should be able to enlist with a guarantee to go to officer candidate school after basic training. With a BA in biology i would presume you would be interested in some sort segment of the medical field. I don't see a medical type officer being forced into combat, but you should be qualified to fire a weapon in case the area you are in becomes overrun by the enemy...Hope this helps with your decision.

There are no guarantees.
It's not like they are going to take a Analytical Biochemist or a Cardiovascular Biologist and send them out on a patrol with a rifle.
But chances are, you will have to deploy to a combat zone and not all the troops killed in iraq or Afghanistan are Infantry .
There are very few jobs in the Military where you would never be deployed to a combat zone. I can only think of 3 off the top of my head. And they are all in the Air Force and are nuclear weapon or missile related jobs.

not everyone in the army is a combat arms solider. but that does not mean you will not be in a combat zone. If you do not want to be in combat or a combat zone then I would tell you do not join, because there my be a time while depolyed that a fellow solider will need you to provid some kind of assist and if you are not willing to do that then you do not need to be in the military.
And if I had a BA in biology I would not enlist, I would try to join as an officer if I was to join at all.

Don't enlist if you have a degree. Try going the Officer route. You may have to go through a bunch of hoops but it will be worth it. If you enlist, they can send you to a field unit no matter what you do in the military. Plus, they will only give you the rank of Specialist E-4 if you have a degree.......not worth it.

Marines are the main suitable knowledgeable, besides the incontrovertible fact that it unquestionably relies upon on what you're in seek of. i'm sorry i did no longer examine each little thing yet once you like it much less perplexing flow military, while you're up for a project flow Marines. the two are honorable yet Marines are fewer and knowledgeable greater advantageous. My chum works at a VA well-being midsection and says that is totally uncommon to get Marines yet fairly straight forward to get wounded and mentally volatile military vets. that's a question of high quality or quantity.

why enlist. You have a degree. Try OCS.
Army MOS are guaranteed with enlistment. The other branches put you where they need you.
