As with any sport from golf to rodeo to tennis to football, there is always a chance for injury for the athlete (yes we consider the bulls and broncs athletes).

Stock contractors do their best to prevent it, but unfortunately accidents do happen. These animals make them money, they aren't going to deliberately get them hurt. In fact the rodeo stock is often in a better position for survival than those that don't want to buck, because those that buck have to work for 8 seconds once maybe twice a week. After retirement many of them are live the life of riley because they are used to breed more quality rodeo stock.

I've been around rodeo all my life and we would never deliberately hurt our animals, but yes accidents do happen.

Not too often. These are expensive, prized, and well cared for, loved and respected animals we are talking about here. The champion animals can make their owner thousands through breeding.
The riders?
....Now they get hurt plenty.

No. The cowboys are in much more danger of getting hurt than the animals.

Probably a little, but nothing serious. I mean, if you had a guy sitting on your back and you were throwing yourself around violently to get him off, you'd probably get a little sore too.

Yes. They hurt the bulls to get them to start bucking. An electric prod or spurs are usually used.

Cattle roping is painful for the calves.
