My daughter and her friend have lice. We found it three days ago. I sent the friend home, washed and bleached everything I could, threw away pillows, hair ties, brushes, put the stuffed toys in a black garbage bag, did a NIX treatment and sprayed my whole house. Yesterday no one was itching and I didn't see anything. Today they are both back at it and I see some eggs. What do I do? They are only three - I don't want to keep using all the chemicals on their heads. I can't imagine with all I have done that it is coming from my house. ANY suggestions would be helpful. My daughters birthday party is this weekend and I don't want to cause an outbreak. HELP!

I bought this thing called the ROBI LICE COMB... its kinda pricey, but there's no chemicals ad it zaps he bugs dead on contact. It can be used over and over again...the only thing it doesn't do is kill the eggs so this is a treatment that lasts about a week as you have to wait for the eggs to hach but by getting rid of the adult bugs, there's no chance any more egg will be laid. Do it every day, one comb through the entire head, for about a week, and then hopefully, all of the eggs that remained will hae hatched and you should be okay. My daughter has it too, I'm using it on her now and it works wonders, I only need to figure out a way to get the eggs out of her hair.

Don't do another treatment yet. You have to remove the nits (small brown/black shells) with a fine comb (it should have been provided). You have to do this immediately after the treatment, then daily, then every three days. After about a week or two (read the box), you have to do the treatment again, to rid of any live ones that may have hatched. You have to again go through every strand after the treatment, then four or five days later. Be sure to comb from the roots down and check the hot spots and be sure to get rid of it totally before stopping,
My daughter had it years ago and with her long hair it was a challenge (nits were sometimes lost or missed), it took over a month. Be sure to tell her not to share hats or hair brushes and keep her hair up or covered if she gets another bout of them . As for the party scheduled, you have make sure the parents are aware of the lice (we hate surprises) and let them be aware that you have started the process of ridding them (the live ones should be dead anyways).
No body likes lice (it's considered only the dirty ones have them) but it is more commonly found in healthy clean hair. Happy hunting.

First make sure that everyone who was suspected of having lice ( you, her friend, your daughter, and everyone in the house or possibly another schoolmate) were carefully treated. It sounds like you have cleaned properly, but sometimes lice have become resistant to the chemicals. You can coat the hair in petroleum jelly or oil and leave it overnight. This will only kill any insects due to suffocation. You then must pick every single nit (egg) out of her hair. Do this for a week. Then retreat every few weeks until the threat is over. You may want to consider using hair products that include ingredients that repel lice. Paul Mitchel, American Crew as well as some other brands have tea tree formulations. Tea tree oil was used before commercial treatments were available to repel or treat lice. I wish you good luck and patience to deal with this.

I live and grew up in Florida, which is a lice breeding ground, and the best things to do are to put everything that touches the head in the dryer for a long time, then wash and dry them again. Also the only way to really kill lice for sure is to smother them. This means putting mayonaise on the head or kerosene and letting it sit for a long time. It is messy and gross but the only super effective way. You also need to buy the lice combs and go through their hair over and over and pick out EVERY egg. Rinse the comb and put the eggs in a glass of alcohol next to you. The greasy mayo and kerosene will also make the hair slippery and easy to get the eggs out. I had VERY thin hair when I wasa kid and my mom would spend literally 3+ hours going through my hair. Once the lice are gone, put your girls hair up VERY tightly every day and spray with hairspray, this will help prevent getting lice again.

Slather the kids' heads thickly with mayonnaise and put a plastic shower cap on 'em. Let them sit like this for a couple of hours. The mayo suffocates the lice and kills them. (And conditions the hair too!) Wash their hair and get out the fine toothed comb and comb thru every strand of hair and get EVERY nit there. If you leave even one - you're going to keep doing this! The combing out is the MOST important part.
Instead of spraying the house - I don't know that there's any bug spray to kill lice - vaccuum everything - including the furniture and car seats. (I know someone who got re-infected twice because they were on the headrest of the car.)

Do the whole thing over again, and be sure to use the little very fine tooth comb to try to catch the eggs too. And I think you may be right that it may not be coming from your house. We had trouble with a certain little boy at a school where I did some volunteer work because he would get the treatment, be cleared to come back to school, but within a week or two, he had them again because his mom hadn't properly cleaned. We "volunteered" to go help her----which may be what you have to do if you want to keep having the friend over. Maybe casually volunteer to go help clean their things because "you know how much work it is yourself." That way if there's simply some things her parents don't know or don't realize, you may be able to help get it cleared from their home so it stops coming to yours. Good luck!

dont waste your money on the lice treatments. they do not work. baby oil, heck any kind of oil should do the trick. it smothers the bugs, and helps the eggs slide out easy. still use the little nit comb to remove the eggs. wash everything is scalding hot water, and use bleach when you can. ever wonder why most african americas do not get lice? its because of the oils they put in there hair.

i'm not a discern yet have dealt with headlice and the perfect element to do is get a lice comb a number of that shampoo to rid of lice. perfect element to do is get each and every little thing from snoozing products inclusive of pillows blankets sheets teddy bears toys all wiped sparkling vacuum the mattress and it dont harm to even get some spray to spray on the mattress (i dont keep in mind the call of the stuff yet they make the spray to spray on issues that cant be washed) placed Teddy bears in a trash bag and tie close and placed out in a shed or some thing for like 6 weeks. shop homestead sparkling (dont overlook the motor vehicle (sparkling the seats) and hair brushes couches each and every little thing. As for the Hair use the lice comb get each and every of the nits out and at night time placed mayo in the hair and a bag over their head and enable them to sleep in that wash out etc.. the mayo help suffocate the suckers. As for you have somebody verify your hair for lice to ensure you dont have any and Dont take care of your self till you have it.. wish this enables sturdy luck..

The eggs could just be left behind from the original treatment. You need to check her head every single day and keep pulling out the ones you see. My school nurse also said shampooing with coconut scented shampoo is supposed to help. I guess they don't like that scent. Just check her head thoroughly every day then I would redo the treatment in a week.

In Trinidad, we used Dettol (an antiseptic liquid sold in most drugstores). My family always reccommended it, and gotten thanks. So I'm passing it on. You're supposed to douse their head with it. It definitely works on heads. As far as the rest of the house, maybe you could prepare a diluted solution to wipe everything down with. Hope this helps.
