you can swap some parts between some Toyota and Lexus. so you would be able to keep costs down by buying the toyota parts for a lexus. it depends on what model you get too...the older ES300s were a dressed up version of the Camry. the trucks, the LX470 is a dressed up version of the Land Cruiser (both are expensive).
overall, i would say the toyota will cost less. since things dont break too often on Toyotas, personaly, i would go for a Lexus, retains it's value and better creature comforts (nice leather and wood grain).
either way, you cant go wrong.

Lexus is manufactured by Toyota just as Scion is as well. Some Lexus models are similar to its Toyota counterparts like the LX470 is to the Landcruiser. But other models do not have a toyota counterpart. These cars are manufactured to those that want the reliability of a toyota, but also want to pay a little more for the name and or extra luxury features they come with. As with a Scion you get the reliability of a Toyota at an even more affordable of a cost due to the cars being manufactured with not so many extras and getting a little retro of a look that is focused towards the younger generation that might not be too keen on driving the same commuter car as Dad would. Hope this helps. So its a personal preference on which one you get if you are debating on a vehicle that is badged toyota or lexus. If you like the look of the lexus badging go for it, if not don't. It will also decide what dealership you want to go to for service. Hope this helps.

They're both made by Toyota. Lexus is the brand they give to their luxury range.
If a component is shared between Toyota and Lexus vehicles then it will be the same price. So it that respect it doesn't matter which you buy. There are many such components including ignition bits, brake components, bulbs etc.
If a component is a common car facility but posh so that it's exclusive to the Lexus range, i.e. Toyota's will have them but it won't be so posh (e.g. seats, in car entertainment kit) then the Lexus equivalent will cost more.
What do you expect? Lexus is the up-market product but uses a huge number of common components with it's 'lesser' brethren. You shouldn't use cost of parts as a comparison between vehicle types from the same maker. It's a complex and futile exercise.
Try this - Compared to lesser Toyota products Lexus cost more to buy, more to insure and use more petrol. This also means their CO2 emissions are higher and so their Road Tax is higher.
They are also much more comfortable and classy to ride around in but not necessarily quicker.

As others have already pointed out , Lexus is the luxury division of Toyota just as Infiniti is to Nissan and Accura to Honda. The Lexus ES350, the smallest of the Lexus sedans, shares the same platform (chassis) with the Toyota Camry just as the Infiniti I series used to with the Nissan Maxima.
To ask point blank whether you would be better of with a Toyota or a Lexus is similar to asking whether you'd be better of staying at a $80/night room at the Hampton Inn or at a $ 160/night room at the Hilton Hotel. Both are owned by Hilton but while one stresses economy and efficiency the other comfort and luxury.
You did ask specifically in terms of costs of parts though. In those terms, of course a regular Toyota model would be more economical than a Lexus.
Most Lexus new car buyers (as most Infiniti and Accura new car customers), however, do not keep their vehicles more than 3 to 5 years and for those high quality vehicles, parts do not wear out in those initial years. Therefore, for those folks (I'm one of them), the costs of parts are a non-issue.

With cost of parts, yes, it would be better to go with Toyota. Lexus uses high quality, expensive parts on their vehicles to ensure durability and reliability. Toyota owns and operates Lexus so really, a Lexus is a more expensive, better built Toyota. Lexus was built to appeal to the crowd who have the extra money to spend. Toyota is equally as good, though. You can think of Toyota as the luxury brand in the "built for a family" competition area.

Hi, Toyota and Lexus are the same company.
Lexus was set up as a luxury car maker for Toyota hence the prices and running costs are about the same.
So if i was to choose it would be a Lexus as it is seen as a more luxury type car.
GOOD LUCK.

Definately, Lexus and Toyota are actually the same manufacturer, but Toyota found that most garage owners of Toyota Garages didnt drive Toyotas but high end cars like Jaguars and Mercedes Benz etc. So they came up with the Lexus brand of high end cars. And due to the prouction rate of cars and spare parts the costs are higher.
For overall cost of parts etc Toyota are cheaper.

Depends on your payment range. If you can afford 600 or more per mo. go with Lexus. Better performance and quality. Parts usually last longer like Toyota. Either way they are both good cars in quality. (Toyota Co. owns Lexus).
