It's your life and you have to live it - not your parents.

Why don't you finish your college which will at least give you something to fall back on and at the same time you could join a local dramatic society, they probably have one at the college. You could see how you get on with the acting by taking part in various productions. I can understand some people are afraid of their parents reactions, but after all it is your life and you are twenty, they should love you regardless of what you wish to do, that does not mean they will support you and encourage you. Unfortunately acting still has the stigma of not being a real job, although there are famous people as you know who have devoted their whole lives to acting and have made millions doing so, and a lot of people happily entertained. As I said if you tell your parents you will finish college first it will probably go down better. Other than that you could come home in fancy dress and say "Guess What." (shock tactics).

Try to stay with your catering course then you have the experience behind you, do not let your parents rule your life, but they do want what is best for you. and acting perhaps will not bring you a regular wage like the catering industry will. Talk to your parents about your ambitions, if they do not want to know go and talk to someone else who will listen to you, family member etc. Do your know any actors can you enrol in a course part-time at the local tech college, try to follow your dream but think long and hard before giving the catering up. Hope your parents encourage you but they will be worried that you are changing your mind, that is parents but they do love you. Good luck your whole life is ahead of you enjoy it.

Why not finish the catering course first? Then you have something behind you whilst trying to further your dreams of becoming an actor. That will also show your parents that you can stick at something and they might be more sympathetic towards your acting aspirations. Having said that, it is your life to live, not theirs so you will just have to bite the bullet and tell them!

First and foremost, it's perfectly ok for YOU to be indecisive at this age, telling ur parents is another... If ur parents are traditional people, they'll want you to be exactly the way they were growing up and thats having done the one thing they had to do bc they had no other choices. This day in age with evolution and time in your hands, there's so much more you've been exposed to each day that passes. If your parents are about change and modern society, they'll understand that your dreams and happiness is what matters most to them, enough said...

You don't have to quit what you're doing to act. Get into some local or college productions and see how it goes. You can learn a lot and still have your other studies to fall back on. Everyone at your age changes their mind a lot but that's how you learn what will work for you and get to know what you're good at and what you're drawn to. Do both for a while then it will be less like you're changing your mind but just changing your focus. If you're really good at it you may find they actually encourage you to do it. Who knows!

hey you only have one life!! try and find a local amature theatre company and join there that should give you a bit of confidece to start with then if you are chosen for a part your parents could come and see you and go from there! keep up your studies as acting is a very difficult business to be in, nto everyone works all the time! i worked in theatres for over 25 years and ive seen a lot not only that, its best to have a few strings to your bow as they say, when youre not acting you can be a chef!! cool!

Find a drama group that you can test the water with. That way you're not packing college in straight away. If you find you love it, then look into it a bit more. If it's what you want to do, then go for it. If your parents have never really supported you anyway, then you won't be disappointed if they don't support you doing this.
You have to make your own choices and live your life your way - not theirs.
Tell them you've made a decision and basically tough if they don't understand.
Good Luck.
Remember me when you're famous please. lol

You're an adult and you have to live your own life, not your parents. I can certainly understand not wanting to disappoint them, but ultimately the choice is yours. I would suggest auditioning in your free time for local gigs. You want to make sure you have a shot at acting before you change your entire career path. Best of luck!

Finish your catering course, then persue the acting thing hardcore. You're old enough to make your own decisions... but if the acting stuff doesn't materialize, you'll have catering to fall back on. GOOD LUCK!
