I don't know what to say. I don't know "the reason I need an appointment".

Just tell them that you need a consultation to talk to the doctor about your anxiety and depression. That is a valid pre-diagnosis for a consultation. Do it today. It can change your life. I know, I've been there.

you might just start by saying i think i might be depressed. thats all i said years ago . just that and sure enough i was. i can tell you that if your not suffering from clinical derpression or anxiety its no big deal the doctor still check you all out . either way its just an illness one that can be treated and one that if left untreated may get much worse before getting any better.
oh as for the reason for the appointment just say its a very personal matter. they hear that often and most know enough to make the block for the appointment a bit longer when they hear that .

Is there any reason why, when asked why you need the appointment, you can't just say, "I am suffering from anxiety and depression." By the way, if you get the appointment, be completely honest with your doctor and don't rule out any medications he/she might start you on.

Be honest when booking, or tell the receptionist that you're just 'feeling under the weather'. But you really need to tell the doctor everything so you can get the best possible help. Write everything down before you go in so you don't miss any vital information. Doctors are used to hearing about this kind of thing and will be able to help you without judging you.

Just don't do it the way I did. I went to the ER with chest pains (I guess from the anxiety) and then flipped out and they told me to see a psychiatrist and gave me a prescription for Klonopin. Then I went to the primary care doctor (instead of the psychiatrist) and broke down and cried in his office so he immediately told me I was depressed. Now I'm seeing the psychiatrist and feel so much better. I hate to admit it but medication does help. Good luck!

You don't need a reason. Tell the receptionist you would like more information on anxiety and depression. Thats all she/he will need. They cant ask why you want the info. thats invading privacy..if the doctor wants to know he/she will ask why and you can either say i dont want to say or tell him/her if you feel comfortable doing it.

I know it can be difficult but the simplest thing is to be straightforward and say. "I am anxious and depressed" and give some examples of what you mean.
The average doctor will not be surprised or put off by anything you say

I have told the receptionist before that it's personal, and I prefer to discuss it with the doctor. That takes care of it. Good luck.
