As a civilian who disagrees with our reasons for being in Iraq, I also want to find a way to support the individuals that are doing their duty by laying their lives on the line for our country. For your willingness to serve our country, we thank you!!
However, would you be willing to share how we as civilians can support YOU the troops, even if we do not support the cause?
My concern is how to balance opposing the war without making the mistakes that happened in the treatment of the soldiers who served in Vietnam. The treatment of our serviceman by those opposing the war at that time was wrong.
So help us to learn from our mistakes in the past. For those of us who don't agree with the war, how would you like us to support you, especially when you return here to the U.S.?

Politically wrong, thank you for your citations. We do not want to erode their morale, so thank you for your insight.
However, we want to see this war come to an end as soon as possible.

Im a Army Sgt. - Been to Iraq twice, Afghanistan once.
You can support the troops without supporting the war. I understand that. It doesnt bother me, all of this talk about how people who oppose the war demoralizes the soldiers, well it doesnt demoralize me. I find that talk bullshit. Ive yet to hear another soldier say how they felt demoralized because people at home dont support the war. You should have the right to support the war or not support the war. After all thats what we are suppose to be in Iraq for, to bring freedom. If we cant have freedom at home in America to stand up and say no to our government then why on earth should we be trying to give that kind of freedom elsewhere.
You can still support the troops. There are programs to send care packages to the troops in Iraq or Afghanistan. Just sending letters can help bring up moral. Also, dont forget the guys who are injured and laid up in a hospital bed, they need help more than any of the rest of us. Find a program to get involved with to help our injured veterans, if its just sending them a get well card or going further and helping them get back on their feet it all counts.
Thanks for your support.

It is not the militarys right to agree or to oppose any war we fight. It is the right to vote those people in or out of office. If you want to understand how to support the troops without supporting the war then Vote. Let your voice be heard that way.

I'm not in the military, but I have a lot of friends who have served in Iraq. Most of them understand that people aren't against them, but against the war, and they want the war to end as well. The slogan "Support our troops, bring them home" is something I agree with. One of my friends said "If Bush and the Republicans really support us, they should give us proper armor, instead of leaving us to make it from scrap metal."
If someone says something to you about being against the troops, tell them you love the troops, which is why you want them at home.

I oppose the war BECAUSE I support the troops.
Our military men and women are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for us.
That is tremendously honorable and brave thing not to be taken lightly or misused.
It is my belief that the current administration is misusing our military.
I do not want to see someone who is willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for freedom, for me, for the people they love come home in a body bag for a cause like oil, or dick Cheney's business interests, or weapons that don't exist.
We need to treat their sacrifices with more respect and not put them in harms way unless it is for a good and necessary cause.

Sorry, but you can not balance the two. If you oppse the war, you are taking down those in the Military that support what they are doing. By going against the war, you lower morale and eventually erode the desire to win.
Belive me..it has to be one or the other or there will be another VietNam home comming for these brave folks.
I for one refuse to allow that to happen.. The war is just and the outcome is better. Look at my links and you will see all the good that is comming from this war. It is not alll death and destruction...
The proper armor needs to come from the Liberal Congress..The President is not responsible for supplies...Congress is.

My cousin (special forces) says it is just really nice when people say "thanks". You know, people don't do that so much anymore.
Or if you see a uniformed man/woman walking down the street, give a wave from your car or a friendly honk.
They don't need to know how you feel about the war, just how you feel about them.
Plus, he says he knows many people feel like you do. Heck, many family members feel that way.

We can support our troops in Iraq by sending them Condoms!
If they are going to be screwed by the Republicans and Bush & Company - we may as well do all we can to "Protect" them!!!!

Admirable thought. I admire you more than most dissenters. You actually DO support them; it's not just lip service.
