By now, I'm sure you've already washed your hands, which is just about the best thing you can do. In the future, if you handle cut chili peppers, immediately wash your hands with cold water...warm or hot water opens your pores, and allows the hot pepper oils to absorb into your skin very quickly.

As for relieving the burn: the capsicum (the "hot" in hot peppers) is actually very alkaline, as opposed to acidic. You might try rubbing some vinegar, or lemon juice, onto your skin. The acidity will neutralize the heat somewhat. After that, all you can do is wait (and for God's sake, don't rub your eyes).

Next time, wear some disposable latex or plastic gloves.

If you are going to do a lot of chili's your hands can start burning even if you are wearing gloves. I where double gloves not if I have a lot. If you are wearing gloves even if your hands aren't burning you can still have some on your hands when you take off the gloves. So, even if you wore gloves and the hands feel ok still don't touch your face. remember the knife and the cutting board have the stuff on too.

Bleach works, but so does milk. With the milk you have to leave your hands in it though, not just rinse. I tried the yogert when I got it on my face and I thought it helped and its safe to put around your eyes

I'm sorry, I have never found a cure for this, that's why I always use surgical gloves when chopping and slicing peppers. Call your local pharmacist and see if they know of anything, they have always told me that you just have to suffer through it. Try keeping your hands in ice water, but this can last a long time and possibly over night.

I chop chilies with bare hands, and I just wash mine very well with SoftSoap Antibacterial and hot water. I don't have a problem with the burning using that method if I accidentally touch my face. Somehow that soap just takes the chili oil right off.

DO NOT touch your eye's. At all! Just give your hands a good wash and you should be fine, unless you are allergic then you have to go to the hospital, if you are not allergic then it should pass
