You know that you can:
1. Belong to the church.
2. Be baptized.
3. Profess to be a Christian.
3. Believe you are a Christian.
and still not be a true Christian.

How do you explain this to non-Christians?

Many belong to a church and are not a Christian. Many are baptized and not a Christian. Many claim to be Christian and are not. Many believe that they are a Christian, maybe because they were raised in church, or were told that they were, but are not.The Lord said that you will know them by their love for the breather en(other believers), by their fruit. (love, joy, peace, long suffering(patience),gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance; against such, there is no law). This spirit lives inside real Christians. And you must have a real relationship with Christ!

You can "talk the talk" and yet not "walk the walk". You can believe you are a Christian. But you can't without believing that Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven. It's like being an American in France. You can believe that you are French. You can talk the Language, eat the food, particpate in the culture........but you are not really French until you turn in your papers to become a true French citizen. The same with Christianity. You must have a realtionship with Christ in order to be a Christian. Those are your official papers to become a true Christian.

ANSWER:

Nice "trick" question. *Get your bible.

Romans 10:9-
because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

That's all you have to do to be a Christian. Going to a church is helpful. Baptism is Symbolic. Profess (always) and Believing (100%) will make you a Christian. Now, if you are a Christian, you cannot be a false Christian. False Christians say they are Christians but falter in their belief. Which is why your question is off.

For non-Christians, the bible states that there will be false Christians that rome the earth. We Christians have to be aware of that. You have to be aware of that as well. As God is working, Satan is working also, so I advise Non-Christians to simply study the life of Christ. That way, when you come across someone saying they are Christian, you will be able to tell if their qualities vibe with that of Christ.

Blessings

I never assume that I know anyones heart. Simply explain that even if they accept Jesus as Lord and Savior it is a learning experience to live the way that Jesus would have us live. That we are happier and healthier if we live according to the Word of God but that people are at different places as far as how well they know how to life that way. That the best thing that they can do is start reading the bible and living among other Christians so that they are held accountable for their actions and living in the light.

The more of their lives that they live in the light the closer they become to Christ's ideal way of life.

Only Christ knows who his followers are. Surely there can be hypocrites among any group. Man does not decide, God does. This should be a comforting thing: no person can tell you that you're not 'really' a Christian. Only God can make that call

IF a non=christian had any sense they can tell that these kinds of people is not real, A True Christian will bear the fruit, & if a person can not bear the true fruit of a true christian, something is wrong, But you have to understand, We don't bear a fruit to please Un-believers. Or what a unbeliever tries to say is not fruit when it is.

To be a Christian is to have a PERSONAL relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. In other words, you have to know Him, not just know about Him.

You can explain this to a non believer by showing them the parable of the sower in Luke. Many want to be a christian on the outside but their heart is far from the Lord, only God knows who are "his sheep" and he knows your heart- He knows who have truly repented and who truly love Him.
The parable of the sower explains false conversion---many hear the word, and pray to receive it, but are quickly taken away by other doctrines that sound better, and some are never rooted in the word of God, meaning they never had a desire to read their bibles or really draw near to God, but still think they are going to heaven because they "prayed the prayer"
--and many are just sunday christians, living by works, thinking that will save them. When it is only by God's grace alone (Ephesians 2:8)
John 10:27
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

-Those who do not hear the words of God, nor live by them are not following Him- and He knows who they are.
When someone is TRULY saved, they are sealed with the holy spirit ( see ephesians 1)
God changes them and gives them a new heart and a desire for Him and the Spirit teaches them all truth.
Only God can save us, only HE can open our eyes to His truth as John 6:44 says "No one can come to Me unless the Father draws him and I will raise him up on the last day" --Jesus speaking.
No one comes to God on their own ( Romans 3:10) And when someone is truly converted, changed and forgiven, they will bear fruit for the Lord and desire to know Him. Of course we will still sin and fall short, but we will DESIRE to follow God and pray for His strength to help us from sinning, and we will know when we do sin, because the Holy Spirit lives in us.

I prefer to stay away from saying someone is a true Christian or fake Christian. To me, if you believe Jesus Christ is the son of God, our savior and redeemer - you're a Christian - period.
