I think you would learn best in person, such as by taking a night class. However, WATCH OUT FOR SCOUTS IN NIGHT CLASSES, and at extention departments of post-secondary educational institutions. They can be dangerous!

Otherwise, try some sites online, or buy a grammar/vocabulary book and some software.

Here is a good online site for learning some vocabulary and grammar once you have learned a small number of basics:

http://www.french.about.com

You would have to navigate the site for yourself.

You could start with a French for Beginners type of book and then add to your learning from there.

Learning a second language in person would give you a better ear for the sound. Many major urban centres have short French immersion classes ranging from a few days to a few weeks (summer school). I have come to suspect that many second language programs have a lot of scouts, so you would benefit from being aware of the dangers. It seems that few things are safe these days.

You should probably state the region where you live, because there are people from all over the world who come onto this site.

I am a native French-English speaker, and my wife is French. Either of us could help you, but if you live in austrailia, we won't really be able to meet up with you much...

You could also go to your local high school or college and ask a French Teacher if he/she has a list of students willing to tutor. You can usually get a high school tutor for around $8 per hour or a college tutor for around $12 per hour.

If nothing else, there is software available at places like Costco or your random computer store (compUSA, circuit city, Best Buy) that teaches pronunciation, accent, grammar, vocabulary, and even culture.

Google "learn French" or "French tutorial" or go to the library or bookstore and get a program on tape or CD. You're not gonna learn here on Answers!

Salut!
