I have two male cats, One is just affectionate anyway doesn't matter, but the other one, that is supposed to be mine, doesn't seem to want to be close to me (well he isn't really with anyone)
but he purrs when my dauther comes in and gets excited, and sleeps on whatever she left on the couch that's hers.
I am post menopausal and thinks maybe that has something to do with it, could I be right?

As you say the cat isn't very affectionate with anyone, but does seem to prefer your daughter when he is in the mood for some lovin'. It's probably just because she respects his needs and is always glad to see him and knows all the right places to scratch. Also, is she the one that feeds him? Do you leave your clothes laying on the couch or is it only your daughter? Cats will lay on soft things, especially if warm or have a good smell. I can leave a sweater on the bed, and the cat will have the whole bed to lay on, but will choose to lay on my sweater because it's an extra layer of padding and warmth.

Cats can't belong to anyone. They chose who will belong to them, not the other way around. So when you say he's supposed to be yours, he doesn't know that, and it can't be forced. Enjoy the company of the other cat that does want your attention.

I've been owned by 3 male cats in the past and currently have 2 females, and the one thing I've learned over the years is that each cat has it's own personality, and there is no stereotyping of the cats based on gender. Each is a unique "person".

Cats generally like kids.

Not likely. Surprisingly, most male cats are very good parents and care for the "young" of almost any species. It could also be that he senses she just plain likes him more than you do. YBIC
