Recently following a cut caused by some chips to the roof of my mouth (It had healed before I noticed this), I noticed if I suck my top set of gums moderatly hard, I can extract a certian quantity of blood. This quantity is not consistant, but never really amounts to more than about a shot glass's worth. I brush, floss, and use listerine 2-3 times a day, and have healthy teeth and gums. What should I do? should I continue to keep this "pocket" clear, or let it go away on its own?

Depending on the amount of time since the initial injury it's likely that you are exaserbating the situation with the sucking action. Instead of Listerine you should alternate between a warm salt water rinse and a non-alcoholic rinse such as Biotène. The warm salt water is good for drawing out the infection, and the Biotène is a better way to keep your mouth both clean and moist. The alcohol in Listerine (and most other mouthwashes) is antiseptic, but it dries the mouth, and is too much of an irritant when you're trying to heal a mouth wound.

And, of course, you should stop the sucking until it's fully healed.

You should rinse your mouth with warm salt water, and not use the listerene until your mouth heals. Try not to suck the area or it will take longer for it to heal. A shot glass of blood sounds like a lot to be coming from your gums. I really think you should go see your dentist.

Go straight to your dentist!!!!!!!It sounds like a gum disease, they may need to do what is called a periodontal cleaning, or you could have something else wrong. but get it checked quickly, or it may result in you loosing your teeth!

rinse with warm water and salt mix, or even a hydrogen mouth rinse instead of listerine
