For some reason this unfounded rumour is often asked out here. There is nothing to it. Outside of aboriginal and far northern communities alcohol abuse is much less than in the States. By the way, the age is 18 in Quebec, Manitoba and Alberta.

I am in Canada and it is not the Federal government who sets the legal drinking age, each province has there own right to make that decision,19 is the norm, when I was 18 in 1975 it was at that level, but has risen up to 19, at one time it was 21, but as other things changed it did to, to be able to buy/consume alcohol it is 19 and for tobacco products 18, but that is debatable, you can go to jail for buying booze for minors, smokes will just get you a talking to??

I go to school in Erie, PA, US, and on the day before my 19th birthday, one of my professors told me that alot of people between 19 and 21 go to Niagara Falls, Ontario to take advantage of the 19 drinking age in Ontario. Some other student in the class asked if they were changing it, and the professor said that people have been saying that it was being raised since she was 16. Also, I have done a news search on several occasions, and found nothing about any changes occurring.

I haven't heard any news on the subject, but that doesn't mean it isn't happening. It's not the sort of information I'd necessarily pursue, anyway, because I'm WAY over 21.
