We are never going to see each other again, and it saddens me deeply. These were good times we had, but they are forever gone.

The realization that we're never going to meet again, is the most heartbreaking thing for me..and the pain this causes to my heart cannot be expressed. What good is this life to me now?.. all life without your presence is meaningless like dust blowing away in the wind.

it's from an ancient japanese poem in "The tale of the bamboo cuter" Princess Kaguya must return to the moon....but it deeply saddens her because it means that she must leave the mortal parents whom have raised her since infancy. she wishes deeply that she could stay with them...so she gives them a potion of immortality. But her mortal father casts it away, and speaks that poem. He's saying that...with her gone...without their beloved daughter, their life has no more meaning...why take the potion and live forever when she cannot return...when she cannot be them.

I think it is pertaining to death and the purpose of life. If everything is like dust in the wind and no traces of it is left, what purpose is there to life?

Is this from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet? It sounds like it. It means that there is no chance for this speaker to meet again with whoever they're talking about. They're very sad and they want to be with their lover even in death
