My 20 month old daughter caught headlice from her school aged cousin..I was not aware they had it..obviously. I've bought something called the Robi Lice Comb which is awesome, it zaps the bugs dead on contact, but it doesn't remove the eggs. I've ried the standad lice comb to remove the eggs but my daughters hair is so fine, it won't catch anyhing. At this age, my daughter is so imaptient and won't sit still long enough for me to try and struggle to get any eggs out. Please, don't say I'm a ad mom for my daughter having lice, the situation was beyond my control and lice run rampant in schools here. Do you have any suggestions that will help me get the eggs out and to be sure that the lice don't return... it just seems so gross!!!

If there's any chance of lice re-infestation - slather the kids' heads thickly with mayonnaise and put a plastic shower cap on 'em. Let them sit like this for a couple of hours. The mayo suffocates the lice and kills them. (And conditions the hair too!) Wash their hair and get out the fine toothed comb and comb thru every strand of hair and get EVERY nit there. If you leave even one - you're going to keep doing this! The combing out is the MOST important part. If the comb doesn't pick them up, use your fingernails - pinch the eggs or nits in between your nails and gently pull them down the hair shaft - the eggs are sticky, and that's why it's hard to get them all.

The other thing to do is to vaccuum everything - including the furniture and car seats. (I know someone who got re-infected twice because they were on the headrest of the car.) Any hair accessories or combs or brushes - soak them in lice killing shampoo mixed with some water. Hats and stuffed animals and pillows - put them in a sealed plastic bag for two weeks and then vaccuum them. Wash any clothes or bedding or towels in the hottest water you can.

As far as getting her to sit still - bribe her with a video to watch or a toy to play with while she sits in your lap and you do this. Or make sure she gets a special reward for letting you do this.

You're not a bad mom - lice is common in elementary schoolers, who tend to share every germ and bug they cross paths with.

I have been looking for an answer for over a year, I have tried every thing on my daughters hair, who is at primary school, I have tried lots of products and lately I have noticed when we treat her with a paid product she gets sick, I found that the best way is lots and lost of cheap conditioner and a nit comb but after that put in each and every day styling mousse, I have been doing this for just a week and tonight I checked my daughter's hair and it only had a very small amount like 3 little ones, when she had the eggs in her hair it was impossible it was almost like you had to wait till they hatch and then comb them out, this works if you keep up the combing and the conditioning and add styling mousse it really works

YOU ARE NOT A BAD MOM. Kids get lice and if truth be known lice hate dirty hair. they go for clean, fine hair that they can attach themselve to easily. A good home remedy is to wash her hair in vinegar and then put olive or vegetable oil throughout the hair, wrap her greasy hair up in plastic wrap or a shower cap and leaveit on over night. wash her hair the next morning and use the comb. It may take a couple tries but it works.

been there, done that. try a pesticide free lice shampoo. it doesn't have the chemicals in it that most shampoos do and you can use it everyday. also, i have uses mayonaisse. it sounds gross, but it is a really good conditioner for your hair. just put it on her head w/ a shower cap, or saran wrap (whichever u have handy) and leave it on abt 20 min. rinse it a little, the mayo will make hher hair greasy so the nits slide out. use a metal lice comb (they get more than the plastic) and comb thru her hair. if you still dont get them, try going thru her hair a little at a time while shes sleeping.

My son gets them besides. I had used NIX to handle his lice, then comb his hair via. With the NIX you're in simple terms meant to SHAMPOO in simple terms no longer use Conditioner. My son's instructor provides out head lice notices if somebody in his class has lice. My son's hair have been given shaved to a million/4 of an inch. That way if he gets lice lower back i will discover them quicker and quicker to do away with them. whilst he had lice he had longer hair. you do no longer ought to bathe each thing in internet site. Head lice can't stay that long exterior the hair. Wash their beddings sheets/comforter, pillows, blankets, hats, outfits they had at present worn. Wash in warm water. you will get some lice spray for the mattress and vacuum your mattress and your settee or the place ever your toddlers have been sitting, that has textile fibers. this is a soreness, i comprehend...

I have heard that washing hair in vinegar will loosen the eggs and make them easier to slide off the hair. Try that. Good Luck though, and no your not a bad mother, my brother was a week old when he got headlice, a lady came to the house with her daugther, who had headlice and never knew, and unfortunaltey my brother got it. Some things you just can't control if you don't know.

Don't forget to treat her bedding, all sheets and blankets need to be washed in HOT water. I have also heard of parents ironing the sofa and chairs and pillows. You may have to pick out the dead eggs with your fingers, a few at a time. And if its been cold and she wears hats, wash those, too, or jackets with hoods, anything that may have touched her head.

Lice might sound gross, but really...kids are like puppies. They carry all sorts of parasites and germs.
