Something to look for is if he is dry during the night. When he wakes up in the mornings and his diaper is dry then you know he can hold it. Also, when he expresses interest in the potty. he will sit on it(usually fully clothed) and pretend to go. When he tells you he wet his diaper or went poo. When he does not like to wear his wet diapers and wants it off after soiling it. Those are all indicators. Some kids do well right away and some need time. I have four kids... one was potty trained at 2, one at 3, one at 3 1/3 and one at 4. I never forced them and some will start really well and then regress to diapers. Just make it a fun time. Some hints for boys....you can put cheerios in the potty and have him aim for them when he has to urinate. That's always fun for boys.
Good luck!

Your Son is ready my son was only 2 1/2 when he started potty training...but if your son asks you for privacy in a couple of months when he can go on his own give him it.... My son hates it when i'm in the bathroom with him but he's 5 now so i guess he is into that stuff now...Don't Let your son tell you when he's ready just bring him over to the toilet and see if he'll go... than keep bringing him back to see if he'll go but keep pull-ups on him at night don't wake him up...

my mom owns a daycare and she sees kids that potty train early and late. You cant be sure when hes ready hoping that he'll walk right up to the toilet and introduce himself...if he can talk, and wants to learn about the toilet, then hes ready, if not, i would say start potty training around 21/2 to 3...he'll be ahead of his class.

It's hard to tell what I did with my son was get him a kiddie book about going on the toilet. WE read it all the time . Then I got him a potty seat and let him pick out some cool undies. It took some time but he got the hang of it.

My son knocks on the bathroom door when he has to go to the bathroom but he's a very fast learner he is only 16 months old and we bought the potty last weekend, he uses it every day. But most kids show that their ready by trying to do things their parents are doing. (When you go to the bathroom he wants to do it too)

The old rule of thumb was when they can say a three word sentence, then they have the reasoning capacity to understand potty training.

Never force or push your child into it. It will come naturally when they are ready. Perhaps watching dad will help or a older sibling to encourage them to be a big boy.

Its not when hes ready, its when you decide your ready, babies learn quick, the younger they are, the faster they'd latch on to such a thing,
