That's funny, because they don't even look like the cars they are representing now. When NASCAR=(North American Stock Car Association of Racing) started, they were modified then. Just check your history at NASCAR.com. What they mean by stock now is that they all have to fit the mold which means they all have to be the same! Which is why they have all the car rules, to make the cars the same.DUH!

I am a Christian and I have had a hard time remaining nice on these boards sometimes I think I should just stop coming here except for the fact that answering all these questions makes me think and grow closer to God. I haven't been rude to anyone yet. Although it takes a great deal of struggling to remain calm. I am wondering why people that don't believe in what the bible says have such an easy time judging Christians by what the bible says? It is true that we are not to judge people because with the same harshness we judge we will be judged. That is scary when you think about how hard we can be on one another. As a Christian I would like to say that we are all sinners and fall short of the glory of God but personally I think that is a cop out for Christians who know that they messed up a simple I am sorry would go a lot farther. It should be I am sorry I was wrong I am sorry if I hurt you not 'oh well we are imperfect humans' Good question

The closest thing you'll ever see to stock car racing on an oval are street stocks at your local short track, and even those are really heavily modified for racing. The most stock type of racing will be found in either SCCA or NASA road course racing. Some of the cars are actually still street legal in some classes.

When the factory sponsorship stopped in the late 60's and early 70's the teams started reskinning old cars withe sheet metal they shaped in the shop.
This was the start of the modern era of stock car racing.
Not many left could build a "stock car" in their shops.

It became a politically correct institution where corporate interests are a higher priority than what makes it so good - the drivers, teams and their fans. If Cale Yarborough and Donnie Allison would've had it out today instead of back in '79, they would've been fined up the wazzou and probably suspended for a couple races; same with Bobby when he pulled up to aid his brother. You ever hear the saying "you get what you pay for?" The saying can't be applied to NASCAR, where prices have gone up and quality and especially personality have gone down.

I agree with your thoughts. But there are plenty of local races featuring 'stock' cars.
But if you go back to the beach races at Daytona, those cars didn't have stock parts either. Really stock car racing has never trully been composed of stock cars.

You can still find it at the local level. NASCAR ruined it; there was just too much money to be had. Now everyone drives cars that all meet the same specifications and are so fine tuned it's ridiculous. You are no longer giving car manufacturers incentives to do something unique since that all meet the same specs.

Have them ask the drivers, I think it's the driver's opinion that matters.
And pretty much for this reason I never called NASCAR as stock car racing.

if you really like "stock" car racing, try watching dtm (German touring car) or ALMS the two gt classes granted neither of these cars are truly stock, but they are far closer than nascar is, and the driver skill is far above local stock car tracks, but they don't race on ovals at all
