Many people will tell you not to get close at all.
However, I have met over 40 people online, all of them were great. But then again, I'm 22 and I can take care of myself and I follow a few rules.
1) Talk to the person for atleast a month and a half before meeting offline. Alot of predators don't have patience.
2) Meet the first few times an extremely public area. My personal favorites are malls, rec center on campus, and busy "coffee shops".
3) Let atleast one friend know you are meeting someone, and tell them an estimated time you should be back. Call that friend when you are done to let them know you are safe.
4) Finally, make sure you ARE COMFORTABLE with the idea. Don't do it because they ask you to. If you aren't comfortable, they won't be comfortable, and it will ruin everything.
Also, if you are under 18, I do NOT recommend meeting anyone from the internet.
Thats just my 2 cents

Well, if you're interested in starting a relationship, I suggest communication through email instead of myspace. Be a little cautious with what information you give out. If and when you eventually meet(which is necessary to do at least every so often in a long-distance relationship) meet in a public place at first, and when you're comfortable, you can go to a movie or something. If you are extra-cautious, you can even pay a few dollars to run an online background check

I think you need to be VERY cautious. It's hard to know when to trust people, and people are very good at tricking you into something that's not real.
However, I met my husband on myspace a while back and we are happily married. The internet can be a great tool for finding the right person, learning someone inside out, and finding out the important things before you even kiss.
However, please take caution. The internet is also very dangerous.

Unless you totally know the person and have met them,..dont get too close. My good friend is now disabled because of meeting someone on myspace.com and she will never be able to live a normal life thanks to that site. She was careful,..but i guess it just goes to show how mean and ignorant some people are in this world.

I'd be very careful. i met my hubby and yahoo and that turned out well, but there are so many crazy ppl online. start by talking on the phone for a while, if that turns out alright, then you could meet in a public place, but make sure someone knows where you are. don't give your address until after you meet.

I would avoid meeting anyone in real life if I met them on the Internet. You never know what freaks are out there.
