because the proportion is the same. One mouse per cat (x/x or y/y), so the time spent is the same. It is practically the time needed for one cat to eat one mouse.
By the way, since you asked this under cats, I should let you know that this time consists mostly of playing with the mouse and killing it, because I am pretty sure my cat would not eat a mouse, but he would play with it for hours.
